Thank you for the heads up. Though 1 hour hardly seems enough time to highlight all he accomplished.

It shows as being two hours on the dptv.org schedule although with the usual pauses for donations it might be only an hour or so of actual footage.

When I saw the title of this topic I thought something had happened to him.

Somewhere I have a 1/4" reel-to-reel "aircheck" tape of him. Not sure what year it's from. I should convert it to MP3 sometime and upload it somewhere.

There's no doubt Dick Puritan is the number one radio personality to ever come out of Detroit.

However, I really enjoyed Tom Ryan from 104.3 back in the day.
You might want to add J.P. McCarthy to that list

A lot of the history between Tom Ryan and Dick Purtan's collaborations are featured in this documentary.
Well done to all involved in its' production.

Putting that together was clearly a labor of love for collaborators like DPTV, Big Al, Michael Seltzer, Art Vuolo, Steve Schram, and Purtan's daughters, among others. Kudos to everyone that was able to get it done while Dick could still enjoy it.

I thought it was awesome that they worked in how much Purtan has devoted to giving back to the community through his philanthropy with Children's Hospital and the Salvation Army.

Also spot on was providing tons of credit for his family and support crew, including the tributes to Gene Taylor and Mark Andrews. Including every member of "Purtan's People" in the closing credits was a nice touch.

Wellllll... la de frickin da

I think one of Dick's daughters was very sick as a child and that is when he started the hospital thing,

The documentary is airing at 8P tonight, too! Channel 240 on Comcast (Detroit Public TV / WTVS).

I will be watching.

It was a very enjoyable doc and well deserved. Whether he was in your wheel house or not the guy was a visionary.

I enjoyed the documentary; kudos to those who produced it!

The lengthy cut-ins every 20 minutes for fundraising purposes were annoying, though.

Those cut-ins always bother me when watching PBS programming, especially the music programming.
