4K OTA is baked into the spec for NextGen TV (ATSC 3.0). The rollout however has been glacially slow. Don't know if there have been any 4K tests on the Detroit gateway.

Is there actual 4k video coming down the pipe to them, or just 1080p nested in a 4k raster or uprezzed? Anyone tested if NextGen OFDM from Oak Park is truly more robust than 8-VSB in a typical home environment (crappy flex panel antenna on the wall in the family room) and not a gain antenna outdoors on a 30' mast?

Right now it is just one Channel broadcasting 4 stations at 1080p since it is still in the testing phase.

I wouldn't hold my breath. In my city ATSC 3.0 has been in place for awhile now and they've not even touched any of the ATSC 3.0 advanced audio feature set let alone diddle with the picture. I would expect you'll see revenue producing subchannels and such well before any 4K programming starts to fly through the air and it will almost certainly be uprezzed, not native.

If it's a better image you're seeking you'd be better off getting your hands on a TV that has a really good image processor like some of the Sony products, otherwise you're going to be waiting awhile.

If you have the $$$ to buy a NextGen capable TV, you probably can get 4k via other delivery methods.

Yes, if they plan to maintain over-the-air receiver capability. All OTA will eventually be ATSC 3.0 (NexrGen), following the long transition period.
Up to the individual broadcasters to determine what features of this tech they’ll want to take advantage of.

Can 3.0 support a shitload of audio-only channels in addition to video, and uses less than the 6MHz channel?

Once the major network affiliates in the area convert their RF over to ATSC 3.0, then you will start seeing 4K broadcast. But that won't happen till there are more NextGenTV in use and a bunch of NextGen converter boxes for older tvs.

I have one TV that is ATSC 3.0 capable, got it when one of my older TV decided to die. So far I like the quality of the signal, I get less of the shudder from multipath which is so annoying on the older ATSC 1.0 digital signals.
