"The Dauber", yea growing up around the Detroit area in the 70's, remember him well, with Dave Bing, had some good Piston squads back then but just couldn't get over the 1st round hump in the playoffs...

I was a big fan, or I should say a "little" fan standing next to him when I saw him and the rest of the Pistons at Metro Airport. He was graciously signing autographs for the plethora of fans who gathered around him. I had nothing for him to sign. Besides, I was too cool for such things. :razz I was also browsing magazines along with then-coach Dick Vitale. Lanier wasn't just big, but B-I-G big! He wore a size 22 shoe. Even so, he had a soft lefty touch from mid-range and that most graceful of lost arts, the sweeping hook shot.
Small 10,000+ capacity Cobo Arena would rock when he and Jabbar would lock in battle.
