Ilitchs Owning Tigers and Casinos

Post by BillT » Fri Apr 08, 2022 9:29 pm

Why isn't it a conflict of interest for Marion Ilitch to own professional sports teams and casinos?

Tigers and Wings are in the name of, and are under the control of, Chris Ilitch, her son. Owners of sports teams cannot be involved with casinos.

Being it’s in the same family, it should be.

They/them, non-binary and proud.

This issue isn't exactly high on my list of concerns. Personally, I have little issue with it.

Let's not forget that Dan Gilbert used to own multiple casinos in Ohio while simultaneously owning the Cavs.

Would not surprise me if several other wealthy sports franchise owners across the country have partial ownership interests in casino or other gambling ventures.

Cripes - Fan Duel, Draft Kings and other sports gambling e-commerce businesses are high profile advertisers of major professional sports leagues at the league level these days.

Not sure why it matters anymore.
Aren't some local Universities teaming up with sports betting apps?

You know, I'm all for "do what you want so long as it isn't hurting anyone", but I'm so sick of those betting app commercials I could puke. I'm waiting to go to church one day and hear "Today's Gospel of the Word of Jesus Christ is brought to you by Fan Duel. Jesus sayeth unto Paul 'Maketh any bet that thy player shall taketh the field and thou shall win $150 in free bets'".

You and I are in full agreement on that point.

I think maybe they've put her on the bench.
[EDIT] Nope. She's baaack, sporting a baseball cap and jersey. Don't think they're wanting to make.it.rain. on the old ball game though.

Bet Rivers has also benched "Courtney Perna," with the Bad Vegas Lounge Act and a new spokeslady in her place.
Now if "Tilman Fertida" and his drumline would just march themselves away.

You must also miss the AAMCO girl, too :)

I mean, I can see on 97.1. But it's every commercial break on just about every station. Steve Black hocks it on WRIF, along with just about every other jock. Wheels. CSX. Go to YouTube, stream an album or song, 15 second unskippable ad. Billboards. Everything. There is an entire station called THE BET fer Chrissakes. And then on 97.1, everytime Mike or Rico fart there's a bumper that says "Mike's flatulence from last night's taco dinner is presented by Bet Rivers", click the station, I hear "CAESAR IS DOIN IT FOR THE PEOPLE, PEOPLE!". I mean....fuck me with a coat hanger! And then the wagers are even worse! "Make a $5 bet that any player from either team takes the field and you win $200 in free bets". And then the 3 minutes of qualifiers. And it's been like this for two years now. Enough.

I can't imagine what it will be like with ads when sports betting officially comes to Ohio.

After being deluged with this ad's I get to wondering what type of demo are these aimed at.
