What Can You Say about a Legend Like Huel Perkins?

Post by MotorCityRadioFreak » Tue Mar 22, 2022 4:16 am

Friday will be Huel Perkins’ last day at Fox 2 News. His voice IS Detroit news to me. He moved up to the lead anchor role on the 10 o clock news in 1997. That was about the same time I became actively engrossed in the nightly news when I got my TV in my bedroom as a teen. If you are reading this, thank you for giving me a passion for journalism. I wrote for my college newspaper. Wishing nothing but the best for your retirement! Loved and still love Let It Rip!

His voice inflections were really annoying in the last few years, way over the top. His earlier years, absolutely top notch anchor.

Bill Bonds, Jac LeGoff, Mort Crim, Dwayne X Riley, Bob Bennett, and Emory King were "legends". Huel was always a little too smug and uppity for me.

As soon as I saw uppity, I knew this was coming 😂

Bill Bonds was just a pompous alcoholic. The others I agree with you.

I agree based on the fact WJBK going back to its CBS days was often an also-ran in early evening news ratings.

WJBK performed very well at 10PM because WKBD's product had turned to shit by 1999 or 2000, and until recently, WJBK had no serious competition for news viewership at 10p.

Huel is a very good news anchor but I would not describe him as a "legend."
