These dum-dums just showed closing DJIA, NASDAQ and S&P 500 stats for today.

Only one problem with that: STOCK EXCHANGES WERE ALL CLOSED TODAY FOR PRESIDENT'S DAY!

I can only assume the displayed closing numbers were from last Friday's session.

Was it a sponsored slot? Getting $600 for a sponsorship is better than getting nothing... so the companies say. I'm with you.... Personally, if there is no traffic, stop doing live traffic (vehicles, not spot plotting) updates. Same thing, different examples.

Why spend the money on making sure the right stuff airs at the right time when you can pay someone to drive around and narrate “still light traffic out here” 10 times and waste 10 gallons of gas?

How was it worded? I work there and I can say that sometimes that graphic is accompanied with a script that reads, “Let’s see where the markets will open up tomorrow.” Regardless of when the market last closed, that statement would still be factual.
A typo or a mistake is not fake news, especially when the mistake is possibly made by the viewer.

Nothing on the screen suggested the numbers were as of close from the prior Friday's session.
