Quick teases about "CBS News Detroit" are now airing on channel 62. The very brief but slick looking promo I saw mentioned "19 hours of local news each day."

I cannot help but wonder if, in addition to streaming, an over-the-air digital subchannel will be devoted to the content? One certainly should, in my opinion. If I were CBS, I'd also be bending over backwards to make sure that digital subchannel is carried on local cable systems and satellite providers in a prime channel slot the next time retransmission rights come up for renewal.

In the mid & late 90's, long before HDTV usage gained mainstream adoption, I thought CBS dropped the ball in a colossal way by not forcing local cable systems to place the station on channels 3, 5, 6, 8 or 10 (preferably one of the first three positions). In many instances, TV 20, PBS, and sister station TV 50 had much better placement on local cable line-ups. Meanwhile, WWJ-TV was often relegated to channel 14 or higher. Of course, all of that is pretty much moot now, which is good news for CBS 62.

Not sure about the sub channel. They seem to be keeping things pretty close to the vest right now.

Got some more information. Not only did they hire an Assistant News Director last month, they also made some behind the scenes hires as well. Libby Irby who is from Local 4, is their local sales director. In addition, they hired a Digital Sales Assistant, a Newsroom Administrator, and an IT Support Specialist. A woman named Lisa Borich Palmer is their Assistant News Director. Lisa came from Fox 2.

Not sure who their anchor and reporters are, but we might get some big time announcements very, very soon. This news operation is growing fast and the entire hiring process is moving faster than expected.

Do they have a large enough facility to support a few news team, or are they going to be setting up shop in a new place?

Looks like every writer/producer in the market is going to get a decent pay bump one way or another this year.

Look for a possible announcement either in June or July as far as some hires. My hunch is, all their reporters and anchor hires have already been made.

Makes sense. I suspect file footage is probably already being filmed, gathered, etc.

Within the next couple months, if not sooner, in depth projects / investigative reporting work will need to get underway.

As I thought, they are looking to their CBS O&O brethren to find talent. This guy does have experience at the CBS O&O in Dallas. My guess is, some of the MMJs are young and from small markers like Flint, Lansing, etc. I think the anchors are out of market hires too, possibly from other CBS O&O.

Did that actually happen?

If so, I'm impressed. He's very good.

Co-Executive Producer.

The below person is also fairly young and has been hired as a EP. He's at least a Metro Detroit native...
