WWJ-TV just hired a journalist named Andres Gutierrez from Kansas City. He comes from KSHB, the NBC affiliate in KC. Looks like he’s both a journalist and an anchor. His first day on the job was today, according to his Instagram.

We are getting a lot closer to launch date.

NBC is thinking about cancelling 10 PM programming, so 2, 4, 20 will have 10 PM news. Lame.

The other 3 stations have had that same type of vehicle for 10 years. Not an advantage but it looks pretty.

It can be placed at the top of the list for moronic gimmicks.

So you’re gonna have this leapfrog the Rant Van with Ronnie Dahl?

They need to step up and get something rolling. If what they're doing on CW50 is an indicator, then I probably won't be watching much. I'm seeing myself less and less able to stomach a whole half-hour as it is.

To answer Rate This - yes, I think so.

As idiotic as the "Rant Van" was, at least it resulted in some on-air content (albeit bad content).

Why do I feel like this thread about the 62 news might last longer than the newscast eventually will? Once it starts, someday. Eventually. Supposedly.

My 85-year old dad loves the news though. Between Fox 2 and Local 4, he will watch 12 hours about storm coverage. He’ll probably watch this one too. He still reads 3 newspapers every day too.

The new CBS prime time lineup launches this coming week. I figured local news would launch concurrently. Looks like I'll be wrong about that.

I cannot help but wonder if they've had some difficulty filling all the positions.

Likely. Pay sucks. 80K for OMB reporters. That doesnt attract stars. And Detroit is still a hard sell.

Very few on-air talent announcements have been made relative to the number of hours of daily news content this operation will churn out.

I think we've only read about three on-air anchor hires so far - two females; one male.

There's an election in just over six weeks, yet a launch date hasn't even been announced. Are we witnessing a trainwreck?

Sounds like they cannot even drum up enough interest to poach experienced staffers from West Michigan, Toledo, or Lansing. They've only managed to hire a few folks from Sinclair's dumpster fire in Flint plus a handful of folks from out of state.

Perhaps someone with actual newsroom leadership experience should've been hired as ND, and I also think See-B.S. screwed up by committing to launch so many hours of local news all at once.

In 1995, WWJ-TV was planning to do local news, even hiring a news director, only to abruptly cancel those plans.

I'm highly skeptical of the success of a CBS 62 news product --- but we'll see.
