It's too bad that they dismantled CHYR/CHYR7 years ago, they had a great signal in Metro Detroit.

I'd like to hear that station reborn. The channel still belongs to Canada.

As the Beach Boys would have said, Wouldn't it be nice?

It's still in the Region II Database.

So is the 540 frequency, and they might be able to do more with that, if the Canadian regulators let them. That was 2500 watts Daytime, 5000 watts Nighttime, with a parallelogram pattern near the Detroit River.

CHYR was authorized 10000 Daytime and 1000 Nighttime(at minimum efficiency) on 710 at the end. They had to go back to 730 for a while, but right before they moved to FM, they were back on 710 at NIGHT. Both the 710 and the 730 are in the Region II Database.

Wasn't meant to be a misnomer, but it is a cryptic pseudonym. For me to know, and for you to find out😊

Ironic 730 just did an upgrade, but their 730 signal ignores Toledo, thanks to still protecting CHYR

You might be able to put an antenna for WJYM 730 somewhere South of Monroe, and protect WVFN and possibly negotiate the CHYR7 vacant allotment, but they would still have to protect CKAC to around a 50 watt nondirectional equivalent, like WVFN's PSSA. It looks like WRDT 560 might be a candidate for diplex, but it might be too far from Toledo and Bowling Green to be worthwhile from there.

CKWW is literally a hidden gem. Wish it came in better in Ypsi; might just be my radio, but I can't pick it up worth a damn here.

I could stream it, but something about hearing this music on AM... a nostalgia for an era I wasn't even alive for. But still, I enjoy it...

However, CBEF's array was not suitable for an over-the-border service targeting the Detroit area. It was built to provide Francophone service for the entire "Sun Parlor" region.

There were -and are, Francophones in Ontario who have been in the area for more than a century.

Lakeshore, only about 20 miles east of Windsor, is Francophone, despite the outwardly English name.

Another interesting fact about CBEF. It may have been a 50,000 watt station in its earlier years. Popular Electronics described it as a clear-channel station with 50kW, also saying it was the "first new clear channel in decades"

I have reason to believe this may have been correct.

In late Winter, 1971, our family made a trip to search for a suitable cabin rental near Kincardine (To be rented in the summer).

There was a radio in the room. It only got one station- CBEF. WJR was absent!

Perhaps CBEF was later reduced to 2500d/5000n (not a typo) so that points further East could build more stations.

CKWW was purpose-built to be a full-service local station for Windsorites. It beams Northeast, as had the defunct CBEF 540.

Ypsilanti is in a null of CKWW.

On a few occasions, I would drive Southwestward on west I-94 on my way home from work. On more that one occasion, CKWW was so effectively nulled that I would briefly hear WILL in Urbana, Illinois before I passed out of that null.

Not your radio at all. CKWW's signal has always been garbage in Washtenaw County. Their signal also stinks in western Oakland County.

To the best of my knowledge, CBEF was 2500 watts DA-1, then 2500 watts Day and 5000 watts Night DA-1, from the time it signed on circa 1970. 50000 watts may have been a possibility, but interference to WGR 550 Buffalo and WKRC 550 Cincinnati, along with interference ratios that had to be used to allow both WQTE...WRDT 560 and CBEF 540 to meet overlap requirements, made it impractical to impossible. When NARBA created a new I-A channel on 540, it probably was initially open for applications throughout Canada, but cochannel and adjacent channels made it end up in Watrous, SK, where it still substantially overlaps 5000 watt KFYR 550 Bismarck, ND, with the largest service contour area of any station in the US, due to 30 mS/m conductivity in the region. Possibly 40 in Saskatchewan.

Below is a plot of the 1 mV/m and 0.1 mV/m daytime groundwave contours of CKWW and some of its co-channel competitors.

Absolutely. Just like a guy who flat lines an equalizer in a station's audio chain, and calls himself "Audiophile" :rollin

An oxymoron. Or maybe, just regular moron. :rollin

I enjoy a lot of the forgotten Canadian content songs on 580, believe it or not. Chilliwack, Guess Who, April Wine, all good stuff.

Sometimes your day gets cut short, when you are not finished but a moody manager loses their cool without giving you the opportunity to finish it.

I do audio consulting to number one stations in top 30 markets.

Most HD stations sound nasty, I have solutions.

Yeah but that shit POUNDS in in Westland. That's like a golden area for AM radio. It has even done well for me in Novi.

Brighton? Pfffffff. Forget it.
