Was MR Cervi the first or second Bozo in Detroit? I know Bob McNea, who later became Oopsy, also played Bozo.

Also does anyone out there had the experience of seeing more than one Bozo on TV growing up? If you have how do they compare?

I remember that WGN's Bozo was pretty creepy compared to the Detroit Bozo on Ch 9.

Oopsy was the Wonder Bread of TV clowns.

Oopsy was the Wonder Bread of TV clowns.

I choose to see Oopsy as more laid back and mellow rather than Wonder Bread. Maybe he spend his time out of Daisyville going to Grateful Dead and Phish concerts. Maybe not.

As a kid I always found Bozo too loud and jarring, especially for 6:30 in the morning.

The most famous Bozo The Clown nationally was indeed the one on WGN-TV 9/WGN Superstation, Bob Bell. His voice was kind of raspy in later years, like many broadcasting voices, and was copied by Dan Castelleneta in creating the Crusty The Clown character on The Simpsons. I think you may be conflating Crusty The Clown with Bozo The Clown, Bob Bell.

Bob Bell (not to be confused with DJ Bob Dell, who is from Syracuse) was born in Flint, and began his radio career in Flint, after returning to Flint after World War II, and getting his radio training under the GI Bill at WMRP (now WWCK (AM)).

My dad loved Bozo.

Wasn't that the same Bozo (from Detroit) also on WJRT 12 in Flint during the early 70's Monday thru Friday mornings??

Flint's "Bozo" was Frank Cady, who held the post from '67 to '79 on WJRT.

He also did "Mr. Magic" on that station for a period of time, getting pretty long ago to tell you if it preceded his wig-wearing days, was concurrent, etc. Mr. Magic had a turban and cape, I remember that much.
