Lance Tidwell fired from WDRQ and WDVD

Post by MWmetalhead » Sat Feb 13, 2021 8:27 am

Looks like WDRQ and WDVD will be searching for a new FM Director of Programming (or whatever the hell the title happens to be).

Likely due to a dust up resulting from Mr. Tidwell's perceived slowness at removing Morgan Wallen's music from the WDRQ playlist, he evidently lost his job.

It took WDRQ an extra 12 to 18 hours to extricate all of Wallen's music from the music logs compared other major Country stations owned by Cumulus.

Someone evidently tipped off rumor monger and attention whore Jerry Del Colliano to that fact, who of course prominently published that info on his subscription web page and blew the situation out of proportion.

I'm not a fan of changes made to 96.3's morning show since his arrival, but that may have been the handiwork of Brian Phillips in Atlanta. Overall, Tidwell did a decent job navigating that station through some choppy waters for the Hot AC format.

93.1 launched a local morning show under his watch, and for a period this past spring, was defeating WYCD for the week in most major demo categories. Of course, not long after WDRQ's morning show launched, its female co-host suddenly left the station (much to the chagrin of Cumulus), so perhaps that, too, played a role here.
