KLOS and WMMR had the same oval logo as Riff bc they were owned by ABC at one time.
Also WRIF was the softer station of the 3 Detroit rockers in the 70's.I only started to listen to Riff when JJ and Baier moved over there. I like the Poobah aft drive along with the Doc on W4 and Wild Bill nights but mostly an ABX guy in those days. When Wheelz signed on from WBFG in 1980 for a short time we had 4 rockers on the dial, it was awesome. It was Detroit rock city!!!!

Re: WRIF 50 year b-day?
As a young lad growing up in the 70's and early 80's before enlisting in the USAF, WRIF was #1 on my pre-sets in whatever junker I happen to be driving back then, but as the years passed, I was a loyal "Drew & Mike" fan, but when WRIF did not choose to renew their contract (as Drew said, "BLOWN OUT", and WRIF made it perfectly clear the older audience that carried them throughout their early years was no longer a targeted demographic, which was telling me, "at your age, we no longer need you", to which WRIF was deleted from my presets, and still is to this day (thank goodness for satellite radio), that being said, it is impressive they have been a rock formatted FM station for 50 years, but I really miss those glory days, shout outs to Arthur Penthallow, JJ & The Morning Crew, Karen Savelly, Mark Addy, Nick Demos, Ken Calvert, Steve Kostan, Doug Podell, Drew Lane, Mike Clark, Ann Carlini, Todd Fowler, longtime promotions guy Scott Brown who back then let me play on the WRIF softball team , 1989, 90, 91, and 1992, (fun times)....

Stevie and James always seemed to me to be weird fits for classic rock stations, except maybe on the former Over Easy.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 6:52 amKISW Seattle was launched on exactly the same day (February 14, 1971) as WRIF.I think them, MMR in Philly and KLOS (also an ABC O&O in 1971) are now the longest running rock stations around today. That's no small feat.
Thanks, Robert Faygo, for showing the back side of the card! I don't see anything at all "homophobic" about it; just cheesy humor.
I've heard Stevie Wonder and James Taylor on WCSX within the past couple years.CSX used to slip in some Stevie or stuff like that.

Nope. You know you have an oldie when the calls come first!
