Reception issues with 102.7 K-Love???

Post by MWmetalhead » Sat Dec 26, 2020 7:16 am

The analog signal seems to be broadcasting at reduced power or perhaps has a polarization issue near the tower site.

Too much power feeding the HD sidebands perhaps???

I live four miles from their RX site and am having difficulty decoding a clean stereo signal on two receivers in the house.

93.1 and 105.9 (same tower) boom in loudly and clearly.

Nope, no trouble here. Even with WIOG and WWWW right next door.

I'm thinking the HD sidebands are interfering with analog reception.

The HD signal is nonexistent in Brighton under normal conditions, which could explain why you're observing no difference in reception.

I've gotta say, I have a Kenwood tuner from 1979 in my listening room, and I have never been so happy with analog FM. I wonder if that helps with regular FM reception. Every spin of the dial and something else is coming in.

Places like Livingston County and Northwest Oakland County have unique reception possibilities, being at high local elevation. The only problem is that you need a directional antenna to get everything you possibly can, both FM and TV. Otherwise, there is an advantage to being on one side of the ridge in the direction toward lower elevation.

Here's an odd tidbit about Livingston County. Just found out that Arthur Penhallow began his radio career at WHMI 1350, before 93.5 came on the air. He was there for six months, Then he moved to to 102.9 WNRZ in Ann Arbor, before moving to WXYZ-FM 101.1 BEFORE it became WRIF.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Back in the 1960s, WXYZ-FM/WRIF was one of the strongest FM signals in Genesee County. The Electronics Class projects in previous years had built a Heathkit FM Tuner and Amplifier. Another project was speakers in the drop ceiling. They also put an old Channel 6 Yagi on the roof of the school, and some of the kids in the class always listened to it, the year the call letters changed. They also listened to WKNR-FM. Channel 6 Yagis usually have little if any gain that far up the dial, but some in the 88-92 MHz NCE-FM Band. A turnstile probably would have worked better.

Just pray to Jesus and full power will be restored. I believe there is a verse in the book of Thessalonians that might be helpful.
