Local 4 expands to 1 PM

Post by mtburb » Mon Oct 19, 2020 5:38 pm

I'm not sure when this started, but Local 4's noon newscast has been extended to run until 1 PM. From what I saw of it, the second half-hour didn't have any rehashed stories. It was being referred to on-air as "a special edition", but could this become permanent?

My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

Are they still all doom and gloom all the time? If not, I'll be happy to give them another shot. I had to stop for awhile when the world was ending every single day a few months ago.

Perhaps nobody wanted to buy infomercial time in the 12:30-1:00 PM slot.

At my old worksite a few years ago, many of us would watch Jeopardy! in the 12:30 slot.

Sometime later, WDIV would sell a half-hour infomercial slot instead of Jeopardy! replays, knowing that viewers would be lazy enough to just watch the infomercial.

I guess WDIV has now abandoned J! reruns altogether.

When I was still at Channel 7 we used to have a 1 hour noon balloon which consisted of less than 30 minutes of news followed by fill and some musical extravaganzas. Unless you have a big news day you're not going to have more than about 15 minutes of news. The stations believe they can sell more spots at news show rates (which depends on their ratings) with these additional "news" shows or extensions of existing shows.

Does anyone know the going rate for commercials during prime time on the local 11 pm news? I feel like I see more John James commercials then actual news. This guy must be spending a boatload of money.

Got to harvest all the political money you can in the next 2 weeks before Covid Winter sets in.

That’s the strange thing, seemingly out of nowhere, all last week channel 4 was actually airing the Jeopardy repeats at 12:30pm. I was pleasantly surprised to see 5 straight days of daytime Jeopardy, and tuned in yesterday expecting to see it once again this week only to discover the hourlong newscast instead.

That daytime Jeopardy will appear randomly, sometimes in the middle of a Sunday afternoon on channel 4. Then it will completely disappear for a month.

Peters is vulnerable. He is seen as a seat that can be flipped so James, and lets be honest: his financial backers, are spending a ton to try and make that happen. Conversely, Peters and his backers are having to spend a ton to defend the position.

Me personally, the attack ads on Peters have been effective. Peters is kinda fibbing about a few things when he lauds his accomplishments while in office. And the same with his attendance record. Technically, he's telling the truth. He's voted in the Senate like what was it 97% of the time. But he can cast a Senate vote while laying on a beach in Cancoon. James is right when he says Peters has a sad record attending Senate hearings. Once I figured that out, I decided on James.

WDIV's midday newscast, effective today, has been cut back to 12:30, since the political ads are off the air. 12:30-1 is again infomercials, but today the 12:30-1 slot was taken over by continued NBC coverage.
