Canned national programming coming to WYCD

Post by MWmetalhead » Thu Sep 10, 2020 8:45 pm

Does this mean we'll be treated to Rob Stone and Holly Hutton eight or nine hours each weekday now?

They do a very good job, but I think that's a little much!

I honestly don't recall what the heck airs in middays on YCD these days. Someone named Sarah Thomas has been covering evenings for a while; she has always sounded voicetracked to me.

Evidently, Entercom is going to take a spin with its version of a national country strategy, except unlike Gnash, there won't be common branding.

With this announcement, 93.1 now looks extremely smart for boosting its local content. WDRQ already is ahead of WYCD in key demographics.

Why the fuck does Entercom even want to be in this business? They'll never make enough to cover their debts.

Radio is local. Pure and simple. Always has been, always will be.

They could pretty much fire every local talent and still it won't be enough.

Coop is piped in to YCD midday's from Philly. He was their night jock about 10 years ago.
Rob and Holly though on multiple dayparts?
Gag.

What a trainwreck the former CBS radio portfolio has become in Detroit between WOMC, WYCD, and WWJ. WOMC and WYCD were two of the strongest stations for years and had great, live and local talent and airstaffs that have now been stripped down to the bone. That was always one of CBS Radio's biggest strengths, the fact that (other than their stupid flirtation with the Jack-FM format and that time Kevin Murphy was here in Detroit to just fire everyone and re-brand WOMC to the Motor City's 104.3) they almost always kept their stations live and local in all major day parts and throughout the night. Entercom has come in and stripped down every station in the CBS portfolio.

Long gone are the days of great programming and great talent on WOMC like Big Al, Bob Vandergrift, Dana Masucci, Dave Fuller, Dick Puritan, Don Phillips, Lisa Lisa Orlando, Rick Hunter, Tom Force, Tom Ryan, etc. Same thing for WYCD over the years with Chuck Edwards, Dr. Don Carpenter, Joe Wade Formicola, Jyl Forsyth, Karen Delessandro, Mark Daniels, Mike Scott, etc. Even if some of the aforementioned people were still alive or in the Detroit market, surely Entercom would have broomed them out.

The amazing thing about when they brought Joe Wade Formicola over to WYCD was, that guy fit into the culture of that station from the start. When I heard he was coming, I thought "shit, they've lost their minds". Nope, that guy worked hard from the start.

WYCD was born on personality radio. Those days are long gone, surprised they haven't let a cheap PC run the place and turned off the lights.
