Rico Beard Joins Mike Valenti On 97.1 The Ticket, Sullivan Leaving

Post by JOCYACT » Thu Jul 16, 2020 2:49 pm

... Rico Beard will join 97.1 The Ticket (WXYT-FM), Detroit’s only local sports talk station. Beard will be heard alongside Mike Valenti on “The Mike Valenti Show with Rico,” weekdays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 ET, beginning August 3

Mike Sullivan has been a producer and on-air contributor for “The Mike Valenti” show since 2014. His last day at the station will be July 31.

This should be interesting. I've wondered for awhile if Valenti is either a closet racist or at best has no clue what's acceptable when interacting with black people.

I'm genuinely curious, Craig. What makes you think that about him?

Listening to him interact with Terry Foster for years, Tony Ortiz and the studio guy named David somebody I think. It's nothing I can pinpoint and I'm not accusing him just wondering out loud.
But I didn't realize this Rico guy is also a big Sparty too so maybe it will work for the two of them.

You clearly don't listen very much because he's been extremely vocal in his support of things like Black Lives Matters well before George Floyd was murdered.

Which only means for sure he knows what will appeal to a significant portion of the listening audience. And for a lot of people "Black Lives Matter" is really just "I Hate Cops".

Supposedly starting his own production company.

Detroit sports radio is the most incestuous thing. The same dozen guys have been recirculated for the past 25 years. It's so f'ing obvious that this hire was done simply to get a black dude in a prime daypart. I don't know why Valenti's show is the one they wouls tinker with. The horrific mid-day show needs to go.
