According to this link (https://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/ ... 160699001/), this is how Dan Dickerson called Turnbull's no-hitter:

SPENCER TURNBULL HAS BECOME THE SIXTH TIGER PITCHER TO THROW THE EIGHTH NO-HITTER IN FRANCHISE HISTORY.

I'm confused. Is this some kind of Groundhog Day situation where every day a different Detroit Tigers pitcher throws the eighth no-hitter in team history? :P

Two pitchers -- Virgil Trucks and Justin Verlander -- have thrown two no-hitters for the Tigers, hence six pitchers and eight no-hitters. Although if DD called it exactly as you have phrased it, it sounds a little awkward.

Fun Fact. Virgil Trucks was the uncle of Allman Brothers drummer Butch Truck and the great uncle of Allman Brother guitarist Derek Trucks.

Which Tiger pitcher got shafted this century on his no-no by the 1st base ump who even admitted he made a bad call to deny the no hitter?

Armando Galarraga and it would have actually been a perfect game.

I was watching that one on TV, so I am not sure what feigned outrage Price spewed forth into the microphone after that game. Whatever he said, you can bet it was insincere and disingenuous.

I caught the bottom of the 10th inning of today's game (5/31/21) on the radio, and it appeared that Dickerson was flying solo. It was just fine. Either Price was uncharacteristically mute for a half inning, or he wasn't there. Incidentally, one thing that stinks as much as Jim Price is the ridiculous rule that puts a runner on 2nd base at the beginning of each inning if the game goes into extras. Who thought this crap up?

Not to digress from this threads' topic about the "art of Mr. Cliché", "the Master of Cluelessness/Uselessness", "the Ed McMahan of Tiger Baseball"...but MLB has sissified the game.

Major league millionaires playing by Little League rules. Extra inning runner starts at second base, seven inning doubleheaders, and softball rules allowing a floating outfielder, while shifting the other infielders to one side of second base.

We have major league managers resorting to pocket protector shirted computer analyst to set up game strategy, over relying on instinct and playing experience (might as well dress mannequins up as the manager and coaching staff).

I heard that after the seventh inning, MLB is considering having the batter hit off a tee, as another method to speed up the pace of the game.

Also, Jim Price will be designated as the presenter of the daily participation trophies to each player that played in the ballgame. Prior to the award presentation, Priceless will deliver a monologue featuring his classic Priceisms which he is convinced will bring smiles and cheer to those who adore his broadcasting skills.

Finally, why does MLB allow umpires to take a half hour lunch break when reviewing a disputed play. You would think that with all the high definition camera angles, that they can review at a faster pace. Instead, they put on their video game headsets, watch a Netflix movie, eat a hot dog/popcorn, and have a beer before making their decision. MLB should have them on a 90 second clock, and if they cannot render a decision, then the play stands as called.

I think that if we're going to have replay for disputed calls, the umpire's in New York or wherever the hell they are should have the answer before the headphones can even come into play. Have the official scorer relay the call via the scoreboard or whatever. Red light blinks? Call overturned. Plus, all of these watered down rules are RUINING the art of baseball! A player's career on average is what, maybe 10 years? 20 for the amazing players. I always find it baffling that the players union are all for limiting the amount of time that they actually get to spend PLAYING the game. Weirdos.

And, of course, Jim Price Stinks, for all the reasons we've mentioned, but also because he doesn't ever say ANYTHING that isn't in line with what MLB does. "Ha ha ha, 7 inning games, what a great idea! We have such a progressive commissioner who is really advancing the game! Nice area." He always sounds like his nose is up someone's ass no matter what he's talking about.

Radio broadcasters gushing over "great" five-inning starts, and rationalizing poor records (like Matthew Boyd's 2-6 record). Sports writers who fill their stories with spin rates and exit velocities.

We're also getting closer and closer to the participation trophy. There's been talk that the next Collective Bargaining Agreement will expand the playoffs, thanks to the insatiable greed for television money. I really miss the old September pennant races where only first place mattered. But the target audience of the TV networks has been conditioned to long postseasons with the other sports. :(

Used to be the only place you saw a 7-inning double-header was down at AAA Toledo.

Legendary Lloyd worked with Dan Dickerson last night. He will be doing this weekends games while the Tigers are in Chicago. Actually did a decent job. Provided good analysis, insight and let Dan actually provide play-by-play without interruption. Maybe it's time to tell Jimmy to take his buggywhip and move on to The American House community. Now, if we can find someone to replace the useless Matt Shepherd...

I pray daily that U of M has enough guts to get rid of Brandstatter and Make the useless Matt Shepherd the voice of Michigan Football. Gosh... Michigan has tanked on the field and in the booth........ I can't even listen to Michigan football on the radio without puking.... So my Spring and Summers are full of puking at Jim Price doing Tiger games and the Fall puking at Michigan football... both on the field and in the booth..... UGH.

Isn't baseball going through a sort of "slump" in popularity right now as it is?

+1 on both accounts. Lloyd knew when to give insight but didn’t constantly interrupt like the person that needs to retire. And bring back Mario to replace Matt, who ruins the TV play by play for me
