The Michigan Association of Broadcasters did a cut-and-paste of the error prone Detroit Free Press obituary: https://www.michiganmedia.com/2024/03/0 ... ies-at-79/
And added another error:
...died Tuesday (2/27) at 79.
Ron died on 2/20.
Maybe our expectations of getting the facts right are just too high. Perhaps it was just an opinion piece.

I just now heard of Mr. Cameron's passing. Prayers to his family and friends.
I quit opening this thread when one of you started waiting for him in a library parking lot every weekend.
I'm actually old enough to remember Page and Cameron on their show,
The gentleman was a fountain of sports knowledge for sure. Rest in Peace.
Looks like someone will have to update his resume’ to include stalker. Geez, you try to assist a helpless putz and you get labeled as some sort of creep. Can’t win.
I never said Momo was a stalker or creep. Just a tad bit quirky.
You didn't have to when his profile says this:

Matt, if you add my posts to your misbegotten RIP Ron Cameron thread, I'd be even closer to 100%!!!
Some of us appreciate your dedication Momo.
Thanks, Majik, I'll resist all the slings and arrows and just soldier on. :razz

I got to thinking. And you groupies can answer the question better than me. Has any "regular" in this thread not been posting since Ron left us?
Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it. There's no going back, and we can only go forward before we run out of runway.

There have been fewer posts by at least a couple of people, but I won't call them out. Everybody has their reasons.

I wonder if Joe LaPointe will write a eulogy for Ron in his Metro Times column?
Yes.

What I was pondering is this:
Did Ron himself post here (or elsewhere on Buzzboard) under some alias. Y'all knew him better than me. What's the chances he couldn't resist the urge to at least peek in here from time to time? Is anyone MIA lately?

Nah, I think you give Ron much too much credit. This was not someone known for his digital presence &/or intellectual curiosity. In any event, being a "one-man operation" didn't afford him the luxury of some of his "fans" to partake of the goings-on here. The only caller who was critical of the Buzzboard was Greg, but his voice was missing from these pages; the only "pro"-Ron/anti-thread voice was/is a poster from Ann Arbor, who remains very much among the living.

This part got my curiosity:
Toward the end of his life, there was more than a little pathos to Ron’s circumstances, but he never sought sympathy for himself. I saw him at a Pistons game at the LCA a few years back and asked how he was doing.

“Just had brain surgery!” Cameron said, pointing to a bandage on his head. He smiled as he said it, as if discussing traffic on the way to the game. No doubt, we both thought of follow-up wisecracks, but we bit our tongues, rare for both of us.
I don't remember Ron talking about any brain surgery "a few years back".

I wonder if this post refers to that surgery:

And the first person Ron encountered after being kicked out at 15? Tyrus Raymond Cobb.
Ron never forgot the parting advice he got from the Georgia Peach:

"Always go at 'em with your spikes high!"

Good catch. That was a former producer’s original username here, so a very credible source.

Hi Friend,

I want to let you know that Ron Cameron does not have any fundraisers or gofundme accounts as of March 7, 2024

If someone asks for donations, please let me know.

The tribute show for Ron: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ljf9Hf ... _Haiz/view

Thank you,

“He didn’t have a personal life,” Innis said. “If Taylor Swift knocked on his door and said ‘I’m lonely, can I spend the night?’ Ron would say ‘I’ve got to go to a Piston game.’”
I think Ron might have been gay.

Matt, for as much as you came after us for going after Ron, you should know that likely nothing would have raised Ron's blood pressure more than your post. Not attacking a call of a game official. Not questioning Wilt's GOAT status.

And for the record, I don't think Ron was gay. Or straight, for that matter.
