Cromwell Group wants to buy 2 Adrian's stations.

Post by sand2dunes » Sat Nov 09, 2019 12:20 am

Michigan – Bud Walters’ The Cromwell Group files a $450,000 deal to buy country “Q-95” WQTE and “News Talk 1490” WABJ in Adrian, MI from Bob Eliot’s Friends Communications. The stations will become the first in Michigan for The Cromwell Group. Broker: Larry Patrick

What will become of Buzz 102.5? Friends Communications has owned WQTE and WABJ for I think, forever.

Out of state ownership usually doesn't translate into good things as far as small town radio is concerned. Community connections are vitally important.

A clue that Q95 Country was for sale is the fact the station's Facebook page has seen no new posting activity since May 30 (!!!) of this year.

The fact WBZV wasn't included in the sale could be an indication that Cromwell is trying to make a Toledo area play of some kind. However, this company generally focuses on small town radio - so it would not surprise me if they stand pat with the Adrian purchases only.

Obviously, Q95 Country is all that matters. WABJ is a throw in with no local programming other than perhaps brokered or high school sports. I don’t expect that to change.

I wonder what WQTE bills.

Q95 isn't going anyplace format wise nor will 1490am. It is odd WBZV was not included in the sale, to me. A play for Toledo? The only thing I could really see, would be them buying 106.5fm in Delta Ohio, then refocusing the station on Fulton County as well as Adrian.

106.5’s signal is somewhat spotty in Adrian if memory serves.

Who owns WBNO? Could they be a player for 102.5?

WABJ would only change formats if they get a translator. As much as I would like to see some sort of local morning or afternoon show, it isn’t happening.

A translator could be possible for ABJ I dunno. Talk radio will likely stay.

If Cromwell wanted to make a Toledo play, the station they would likely scoop up is 107.7. I don't see it happening, though.

An FM translator for WABJ, assuming one does not exist now, is a good idea.

Is 103.9 still intact and not a part of the Q95 WABJ deal?

WLEN 103.9 has never been part of the WABJ cluster; its under separate ownership. The Koehn family has owned it since it signed on in 1965.

Who was the original owner of the Voice of Monroe - WVMO - EZ-Soft Adult (98.3) prior to "Tower 98"?

WABJ did not have a translator last I checked. However, WLEN does on 96.5 relaying their HD2, which is a delayed simulcast of the main station. 96.5 upgraded its signal recently which may be a sign that they're about to debut a new format.

WBNO/WQCT are owned by Impact Radio, who also owns WLKM and WRCI in Three Rivers.
