Re: April Neilson Radio Ratings
It appears that WRIF is taking more of a hit from WLLZ than CSX is. Maybe some disgruntled Drew & Mike fans? I just don't see how CSX stays in the top position with it's narrow playlist and lame airstaff. Also appears that WOMC has permanently lost some of its audience to its sister station, The Breeze, down the hallway. Too much playlist overlap!

non-anon bob, isn't that because WLLZ seems to skew much younger (I don't know if my opinion is valid, but ...) than WRIF,which has a near-half-century of mining the classic/ hard rock/metal playlist ?

Possibly, borderboy, but I haven't seen their comparative demographics. I much prefer Wheels to The Riff, especially in morning-drive.

CSX plays the oldest music, so it will continue to win.

The J is tanking. Time for Roberta to hang it up.
Re: April Neilson Radio Ratings
Nonsense. Newsradio 950 always gets a winter bump because of weather conditions and how they affect traffic, schools, etc. This is a normal spring regression to its typical ratings.
Re: April Neilson Radio Ratings
I agree, WWJ will always be in the Top 10. In every major market the Newsradio Stations do great.Vic Doucette wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2019 4:12 pmNonsense. Re: April Neilson Radio Ratings
And yet there are extremely few stations with that format.
OT, one of their morning announcers goes by the name "Kate T".
When finishing her announcements, she would say " Kate T for WWJ". This was confusing to me at first, as I heard it as "KT4WWJ", like a ham call.
Recently, I've noticed that the "for" has been taken out

Re: April Neilson Radio Ratings
WRIF's numbers are back to where they were for the most part when 106.7 The D was a decent ratings performer.
WRIF is overloading on Pink Floyd, Zeppelin and Tom Petty these days, which is a bad strategic move. That move is only going to alienate P1's who don't find 106.7 appealing, and at the same time, it isn't enough of a shift to win back listeners who enjoy predominantly 80s & 70s rock.
I think 98.7 The Breeze and 106.7 Fake Wheels are both reasons 104.3 WOMC has failed to rebound into the 6 share range, but if 98.7 is only shaving off WOMC's top end, then Entercom doesn't have much to worry about.
When multiple stations in this market play Classic Rock, there are about 11 shares worth of listening to go around. Such was the case when Doug-FM had a heavy classic rock lean, 106.7 The D was running strong, and WCSX was doing its thing.

WRIF is getting it taken to them on 2 fronts.
Even though 89X isnt in the ratings with WRIF playing Floyd/Petty will push more lsiteners to a pure active rock of 89X and listeners looking for an alternative to WRIF have taken to WLLZ.
WRIF has a hard balancing act to overcome.

Re: April Neilson Radio Ratings
89X is probably around a 1 share. I can’t remember the last time I saw any advertising on this side of the border; probably when they still had the sales office in Bingham Farms.
CIDR is also probably around a 1 share. I don’t even know what they play these days.
95.9, 100.7, CKLW and CKWW probably combine for a 0.5-0.7 share, in other words not a factor.
It’s hilarious that WDFN is still a big fat zero! What a waste of 50,000 watts!

Here are demo rankers for A25-54, A18-49 and A18-34:
https://www.allaccess.com/net-news/arch ... m-analysis
WRIF is still performing extremely well in A25-54 despite erosion in their 6+ share. My guess is the vast majority of any defection from WRIF to WLLZ mostly involves listeners over the age of 45.
I think it's also safe to say 105.1 The Bounce BY FAR is the most successful classic hip-hop and R&B station anywhere in the top 50 markets. That station was #1 in A25-54 last survey and is still in the top three in this most recent survey. That station almost always finishes in the top five in all the demographic categories that matter.

89X and WLLZ have the best imaging on the dial for rock.If 89X was in the book it would garner a 1.5 to 1.8 at least.89X really impresses me , they music wise are the heaviest station on the dialThe jocks are meh but music and imaging are right on..And if WRIF keeps a playlist that takes on WLLZ , Riff's active rock audience has no choice but to embrace New Rock 89X.
Bell Media did make a mistake in closing that office imo.

Re: April Neilson Radio Ratings
I'm not very impressed by 89X.
Their audio processing is limp as hell, they spin instant stiffs into the ground, they ignore great artists like Tool and Static-X, they seldom play Metallica, and there is just a ton of great hard rock from the 90s and 00s the station should be playing more often.
Their afternoon jock, Nate, has ZERO energy. That's the best the station can do? Send him back to Bumfuck, Nova Scotia.
106.7 is mostly pulling Gen X and older listeners from WRIF. I agree WRIF shouldn't overreach in trying to court those listeners back. I'm hearing too much white trash butt rock on Riff these days.
