Channel Seven's Lead Story

Post by sfpcc » Tue Jan 15, 2019 12:11 am

This was tonight's lead story on Channel 7's 11:00 PM News. A worker at a Subway restaurant had her bare feet on the counter during working hours. While that is gross and worthy of media attention, it not exactly 11 O'Clock lead material.

They could have had a stronger story focusing on an auto show reveal...

I thought I saw an article pop up from WXYZ in my youtube feed about a shooting related to the auto show?
I may be mistaking it for something else though as I didn't actually click on it.

Like every video from them in the last 12 hours has been about the auto show and I know I saw something about a shooting mixed in

Exactly why I haven't watched local NEWS for years.

My wife had the TV on Channel 4 one night at 11:00 when I walked into the room and WDIV's lead story was about a cab driver taking a dump on video in an alley.

I can't see myself watching that kind of crap, no pun intended.

I grew up watching Channel 7. It was always relevant, and at times more relevant than network news. Are they responsible for their own decline, or have we simply found other sources for relevant news, leaving local news to fill in the void of local infotainment?

Don't be so hard on them. It's not like there's anything else going on in the world...

This is a great example of why I've been drifting away from the locals for quite a while now. Given how precious airtime is, I am at a loss to explain why they would devote 2 1/2 minutes (at 10:00) to this. I think something approaching half of that time was devoted to reactions from people outside the Subway.

I imagine the producer saying, "You know, this fast-breaking piece of hard journalism isn't long enough. Better tell Simon to ask people walking by how they feel about it. Yeah, that'll add a lot to the story!"

Full disclosure: I did chuckle a bit when I saw that there is now a "Now Hiring" sign on the door.

This is why I choose WDIV. (Not that it's much better)
