WCSX Top 10 Weekend

Post by Deleted User 14803 » Sat Dec 29, 2018 8:56 am

94.7 has been doing this Top 10 weekend for a while now, and it’s not a half bad idea, the thing that bothers me is the fact that it only covers a dozen years 1973-1984 why did they start at 1973, what happened to 1967-1972 they were part of the Classic Rock era, is there a reason why 6 years in the beginning of the Classic Rock era is missing that I don’t get, I mean you had the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Clapton and Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Guess Who and a boatload of Groups that started this thing we call Classic Rock today, so what the hell is the reason that they fail to cover ‘67-‘72 please chime in.

Because pre-73 music is not the current demographic they think is listening.

The logic in that is very flawed though as I've stated over and over.

Just because a song is 50 years old doesn't mean only the 50+ age group likes it.

I don’t know how old your are I’m 63 and retired from broadcasting since 1998, demographic does play a part your right, but to exclude the first 6 years of Classic Rock Material is unacceptable 1967-1972 were vital years in Classic Rock History, why not play them when you do a weekend like this to spotlight a Classic Rock Top 10 weekend. I was in Radio from 1976-1998 and in those years playlist were not as tight as they are today, so I left just before the Corporate BS started and local radio became national in that I mean stations in N.Y.C. sound like stations in L.A. all because of the 1996 deregulation that the F.C.C. passed in the 90’s sad but true.

WCSX has basically forgotten bands such as Creem, The Yardbirds, The Animals, The Byrds, The Guess Who...and other acts as well from basically 1964 to 72, sure we hear early Zep, and of course the Beatles, but damn, Huey Lewis & The News is not classic rock...(??) They weren't considered album rock before...I understand playing to the demographics, targeted audiences...I wish I could turn on 'CSX, seems when I do, I am always just in time for Hair Jovi, Tommy Tutone, Poison or , for the zillionth time, Cheap Trick's "I Want You To Want Me"...

What we need is a new format, Traditional Classic Rock not an Oldies Format but Classic Rock with local flavor 1964-1979, not this 80’s crap you can get that everywhere else, play Detroit Groups Like Early Seger, Rationals, Grand Funk Railroad, MC5 any local bands in that era and add the heavies like Zeppelin, Stones, Who, Beatles, Clapton, Yardbirds, CCR and just any Rock that falls in the 1964-1979 range, it could work and the younger demographic would enjoy it as well, it seems lately they want to discover something we used to and still enjoy today, something old is new again.

That Kev is something I actually would listen to!

I think my hatred of Classic Rock comes from this Modern day garbage 80s music version of the format.

All this obsession with the 80s is driving me away from radio.
The decade has been overplayed to death and is stale.
The 80s was classic and fun again back in the 2000s, but now it's just getting ridiculous and old.

I can't even listen to WOMC anymore.
I was an obsessed nerdy womc fanboy until this 80s nonsense took the station over. ("Nobody Plays More 80s" bla bla)

80’s would sound good if it was that easy to do correctly, The 80’s were a vary verseatle decade, you had The Pop 80’s and Mainstream Rock 80’s and The Metal 80’s The New Wave 80’s which were my favorite the Soul and R&B 80’s and anything else that I may have not mentioned, so it would be tough to try to do a successful 80’s format and actually please everyone.

Why not just open the playlist up and play some of everything? Get a true taste of music from the era?

Sounds great and makes a hell of a lot of sense, but because it makes sense, no one will do it, it could be a “We Play It All from the 80’s” On Awesome 106.7 or Awesome 93.1 or even Awesome 97.9, yes I did say 97.9 their ratings a not as good as they used to be seems like they just keep slowly dropping.

I agree with this.
The stations seem to stick to the overplayed stale songs like Jessie's Girl.

There are so so many amazing songs from the decade and playing the same 150 songs year after year is just silly
