Re: 93.9 Time Warp
It wouldn't do well at all as a full time format. People would burn out on the playlist quickly from repetition. There are not enough airworthy songs to support a 24/7 format.
Such formats have been tried in other markets - a half-assed version was even tried on 96.3 around the year 2000 - and they've earned poor ratings in each & every instance.

Every time I see time warp on this board. I am hoping to see that someone has brought back Cristina. I was actually listening to episode #80 of her podcast as I saw this thread.
106.7 really should have picked her up for weekends

Re: 93.9 Time Warp
No, "not just like other stations."
Plenty of other stations programming different formats have hundreds & hundreds of catalog songs that test well with a decently sized cross-section of the population.
Classic alt is a very niche format that appeals to only a small faction of the listening public and has not nearly the number of songs that test well.
Adult Contemporary, Country, Top 40, Classic Rock, Classic Hits, etc. have hundreds of stations each that earn strong ratings over an extended length of time...multiple decades in some instances!
Classic alt has not even ONE (!!!) station that has survived commercially for more than, say, five years.

Re: 93.9 Time Warp
Name one station in Detroit that has hundreds and hundreds of songs on their playlist and if so why do they repeat the same 1-200 songs because if there’s a station out there that utilizes hundreds and hundreds of songs than I’m missing it on my radio it must be skipping over that station,Now WOMC had a great playlist years ago I will give you that much but even then I would hear repeats every 8 hrs.Even This morning I was tuned in to Sunday Morning Brew and they played songs that are normal music on the main format maybe 1 song per music set that was different to offset the normal format to me that’s not a different show that just making it sound like it’s different because it’s Sunday Morning so we’ll call it something like Sunday Morning Brew but let’s keep the main format so we don’t scare listeners away again we go back to safe music.

Re: 93.9 Time Warp
Most stations in any given week play between 400 and 800 different songs. Stations such as 95.5, 97.9, 105.1 and 107.5 probably play fewer than that, and it wouldn't surprise me if 89X plays fewer as well.
The reason it seems like it's fewer is because 20% of the songs are probably responsible for greater than half the spins. Hit songs are more likely to appeal to larger audiences. "Deep cuts" are likely to be more polarizing.
Of course, for stations where current/new music comprises a significant portion of the playlist, the percentages are even more lopsided. Top 40 stations often spin their top two or three songs on 75 minute or 90 minute rotations.
If you don't care for the repetition on commercial radio, I suggest using one of the many streaming services that exist.

Re: 93.9 Time Warp
Don’t get me wrong there a some good stations out there and I do enjoy them but let’s face it there is a tune out factor for everyone at some point on vertuly every Station and a lot of it has to do with the FCC deregulation in 1996 and allowing the big guys to buy every mom and pop station out there and to be able to own 6 or more properties in a market this in turn caused them to cut back on staff and started to have clones of formats in all the markets they’re in then tighter playlists came about and now we have limited playlist ,no live personalities 24 hrs a day a lot of automation .How many stations in Detroit can you listen to at 3 AM that have a live DJ ? Maybe a handful if that. It’s time to give radio back to the people and start selling the Bankrupt stations back to us so we can save radio because the IHearts and big corporations will soon kill radio.

Let me program that. Classic alternative? That's the only thing I'm good at.

And you’ll go broke doing it. The format would never sell, not a 24/7. On a weekly specialty show that fits a regular format, then it’s possible, but not guaranteed.RadioKev wrote:If I owned that station you can run it we need good radio in Detroit again.
