I remember they had jingles for WJR-FM, not really fancy but well sung. I think it went on into 1972, as I remember listening to it in Harrisville in 1972 in the good old days of FM DXing. It faded in and out but was usually there on my Sony AM-FM Cassette unit, just using the telescoping whip antenna.

Drake-Chenault's "Solid Gold Rock and Roll" format. It was carried in Los Angeles on KHJ-FM (now KRTH) as well, which may have been the first station ever to use it. KHJ-FM was sort of the proving ground for various D-C formats, including the MOR/adult contemporary "Hit Parade" which was carried on 101.5 WSPD-FM in Toledo.

There was a real explosion in oldies programming on FM at the time... W4 had a similar oldies-based format with a few currents around that same time (they were also one of the first affiliate stations for "American Top 40"), and 94.7 WHFI went to Draper-Blore's "Olde Golde" in 1972, which led to WHNE "Honey Radio" a year later (using yet another D-C format, "Classic Gold").

Here's an aircheck of Solid Gold as it was heard on WDBR-FM in Springfield, IL in 1972. (A year later the station was programming Stereo Rock, and they've been Top 40/CHR ever since.)
