I figured they would... 1990 was 26 years ago and it'll probably replace the 1965-1969 stuff but they've dabbled in early 90's songs for a couple years... I've heard 90's, 93's, 99's and 00's...

Where did you hear about them adding 90's stuff?

I've heard Smooth by Santana/Rob Thomas on WOMC, which is from 1999. That makes me feel old, and I'm 31, but I also feel like that's too new to be on WOMC.

I don't get it...there are a dozen stations that play that stuff. How can one develop a competitive advantage in stuff played by NIC, DVD, etc? Still baffled a metro area as old as Detroit (most of the kids left during the single state recession in the 2000s and they are raising families elsewhere) with the history of Motown records has completely dumped oldies outside of a very weak AM station you can't hear in western Wayne County.

Classic Hits is a bigger format nowadays... Oldies is largely dead nationally...

I figure they are going for the "at work" crowd. I remember talking to other Oldies radio people years ago and they were all trying to figure out how to get younger, but still keep a good part of the core audience. It's easier when the older audiences fall out of the target demo. Then you just drop the music that younger demos don't like as much. Them playing Santana & Rob Thomas would be similar to them playing a new big hit by Bob Seger, since they play hits from their back catalogs. They can argue they fit as their fans would probably also like the newer songs. Knowing how all this stuff is researched to death, it's probably so.

I'm 31 and I want 60's too. I listen to CKWW way more than WOMC.

The stuff from 1965-69 I'm sure will still play... JJ's noon thing is always good for offbeat songs... Few anyways...but the target demo for the format supposedly likes the newer stuff... With the H*** ratings it draws there is surely something to that...

Also they play too much classic rock. If I wanted to hear classic rock I would listen to the classic rock stations. If I am in the car I have to switch stations every few songs. If I'm at work I just cringe and suck it up.

Great; I can now hear 90's music torn to shreds by WOMC's horrible audio processing algorithm that squashes treble, limits dynamic range and overemphasizes loudness.

As bad as WOMC's audio processing sounds with its standard 70's & 80's fare, it sounds all that much worse with 90's fare (granted, they are giving such music extremely limited airplay).

Can we all agree that singer Adam Levine is a douche? :razz

I'm going to start requesting as much late 60s and early 70s songs as possible during the request hours. Show then there is still an audience for these songs.
I attempted to all last week but I think jj is sick of me lol
