Luke, if you want to get an idea of what Ron was like back in the day, you could also just do a search in this thread of “Talbert” (Bob Talbert) & Rubin (Neal Rubin), as that could give you a sense of his contemporaneous reputation. Hint: he’s changed not a whit over the years.

Ron has never evolved. He's still stuck in a time warp during his 70's and 80's heyday. While some of the absurdity makes for hilarious radio for the most part his show is boring due to the zero preparation he gives the listeners along with his stubbornness to evolve to current day sports. He's got an endless list of excuses and BS as to why he could not get a guest. In my opinion he should retire and put his energy towards something else but this is all he knows. I give him credit for what he did with his life with no HS education and all that. I just tune in for the a possible train wreck and the absurd, that's the most to look forward to in my opinion. He was best as of recent date with Alex who was allowed to chime in and Ron had an unusual respect for.

This seems to be a very accurate assessment Mr,Transistor.

I think most of us await the day some caller or producer triggers RC and blows up the railroad bridge carrying the Cameron Express a la Bridge On The River Kwai.

I'm catching up with Hours 2 and 3 on the podcasts. I was stunned to hear Ron give an intelligent answer to one of my e-mail questions (about whether he watched the Kentucky Derby). Usually he misinterprets it or doesn't show much interest in commenting.

Ron's professed regret about missing the Derby seemed typically hollow, especially since, even for Ron, there's no shortage of opportunities to view the race other than live.

Ok, maybe not the best example, Majik (although Ron can access YouTube with some assistance at the Dearborn library, or Luke could give the obviously distraught Ron a hand during a news break). But it’s not like the race, as short as it is, isn’t replayed on non-BuzzR TV channels.

Also, Luke reads the e-mail questions better than any of Ron's other producers. The other producers always sounded like they were reading the e-mails for the first time when they were reading them on the air.

Will the always improvising Ron scrap his plans for Sunday &, ala Larry King, one of his SFJ correspondents, do a Bob Lanier tribute show? He does have his Lanier story - told as recently as this past Sunday. He could have Bob's coach Ray Scott (what about Ron's pledge to have Ray back on before the playoffs?!) & teammate Dave Bing as guests.

Yeah, notwithstanding his idol status with so many, there's just no "bottom" when it comes to Ron.

But you've got to give credit where credit is due. The prophet Ron has oft-said that "if you smoke, you croak." And sure enough, Bob Lanier was a smoker:

But Bob Lanier did not die of lung cancer. According to an article I saw it was bladder cancer. The ole prophet is really going out on a limb with that statement. Of course all smokers croak. So do non smokers. Although I do agree that smoking can shorten your life. It will be interesting to see what R attributes this loss to.

Ah, the Scrooge Insurance Company! I have to assume it's long out of business. I guess you cannot successfully run an insurance company that exists only Friday mornings, preoccupied wholly with Sports Talk. But whither its countless workers, Ron's most loyal Sports Talk callers?! Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio, et al.?
