Per WWJ:
Frankenmuth is "up north"
Lansing is in "west Michigan"

The “up north” debate. It’s been talked about so often, but I would agree that Frankenmuth is not up north, even though a former coworker considered anything from Flint(!) north as fitting that category. I’ve gone on record as anything north of roughly US-10 (meaning not Ludington, Midland or Bay City proper, as the highway is in the city).
I’ve never heard Lansing as being referred as “west Michigan”.
Is our pal Jim Hughes also writing news?

I agree with your coworker that, from the perspective of someone from SE Michigan, anywhere north of 69 is up north.
And using the same irrefutable logic, locales west of US-127 would be the western side of the state.

The site where The Palace of Auburn Hills was is where Up North begins.

Lansing most certainly is not "West Michigan."
I think we can all agree on that!

I also have where does the thumb start debates with people.
Anything along 127 is not West Michigan.
Central Michigan University is only about 2 miles west of US-127. Going south from Mt. Pleasant to Lansing is Mid Michigan.
Id say areas past Standish along I75 is where up north begins for me.

WWJ thinks severe storms occurred overnight.
Ummm...no. Those storms occurred yesterday afternoon.
Facts don't matter to them, I guess.

Clare is typically the "up north" beginning. IMO all the way across to Ludington/U.S. 10.
Lansing and Mount Pleasant are both mid or central.
West Michigan begins about halfway between Lansing and Grand Rapids, roughly where the GR Metro area begins.
Then there are southwest Michigan and west-central Michigan, along with northwest and northeast.

Were you born and raised there? Did you ever take a midnight train going anywhere? We need answers.

WWJ once referred to Grand Blanc as a suburb of Detroit when talking about the Buick Open golf tournament. Also heard Tony Ortiz mention
Ubly as "oooo--bleee" while mentioning the MHSAA football finals last fall. Go Bearcats!

Tony Ortiz is not to be taken seriously at all ever since he constantly defended Matt Millen.
