Just for the fun of it, I drove to the Southfield Ram's Horn for lunch on Friday. It's a long haul from his current place of residence, so I guess he stops there as part of his daily rounds to try to talk people into putting good advertising money into a show whose audience is very small. The service wasn't very good—maybe because I wasn't a regular—but the food was very good, the gigantic Imitator double burger that brought back memories of the 1980s when I made many late night visits to the Ram's Horn restaurants on Telegraph Road. At one of those, about 1990, I saw The Man himself and had a short friendly conversation with him.
Afterwards, I made a straight drive down 12 Mile to Comicade in Farmington Hills. It was kind of awkward, because I was the only person in the store, and the owner didn't seem too happy that I didn't want to spend $800 for a vintage comic book from the 1960s. Eventually, I bought a bunch of $2.50 titles from the boxes in the middle of the store, and that seemed to make him happy. I mentioned that I had heard his show advertised on Sportstalk, and he said, "Oh yeah," but didn't offer the 10 percent discount that Ron has advertised. I didn't want to get into an awkward debate so I didn't mention it.
