Pure Country 89 and 93.9 Virgin Radio - thoughts roughly 8 months after the big flip
I think "Pure Country 89" sounds like crap. At first, I thought the station had promise. However, the absolutely horrible local air talent (the DJs have ZERO energy), cookie cutter imaging, and lack of any discernible service elements makes for a very dull, uninspiring sound.
The playlist doesn't feature nearly the level of variety of 95.9, and I'd say WYCD's music is even a little more varied.
93.9 Virgin Radio, which initially was the crappier sounding of the two stations, has improved. The playlist is structured fairly well and features a much better song selection than when the station first signed on. It appears some effort has been undertaken to pick gold songs that have a track record of success on-air locally (i.e. there has been some observation of Channel 9-5-5). The voiceover imaging adds better flavor to this station than is the case with 88.7. 93.9's signal is much more reliable indoors than that of 88.7, which seems to be having signal polarization issues of some kind - and those issues have been ongoing for about 18 months now.
93.9's air talent is lame, but not quite as lame as 88.7. The people on 93.9 at least sound happy to be there. Sure wish someone would work on the mic processing, though. The audio is flimsy and the air talent sounds like they are sitting 10 feet away.

I've listened to Pure Country a few times going to bed for 90 minutes. I've heard a few songs twice. At least I can hear some of the CanCon that the American stations don't have.

Bell Media should flip one of the two stations to all Canadian Content all the time. They could create an excellent 60’s through 90’s Canadian Classic Hits station and actually sound halfway decent. Just look at how many great Canadian groups and artists that came out in that era. The CRTC would love an all Canadian content station.

Name some artists. I'm having difficulty naming more than a handful.

This is a really great suggestion, its better than being the 5th country format on the dial.K.C. I can see it now......88.7 the Canuck or maybe 88.7 the Moose or how bout Zed 88.7 "Where Canada Rocks". For those who dont know we say zed not zee....
Im sure BellMedia could cut into some of CoolFM's numbers....
"When 2 canadian artists arent enough every half hour".....its 88.7 the Canuck
Get a voiceover guy that sounds like Bob from Bob and Doug Mackenzie......"hey hosers your listening to 88.7 the Moose eh?" Kill all the canadian stereotypes in your sweepers....it would be hilarious.
dont think BellMedia Windsor knows what an original idea is over there.
The marxists at the CRTC would wet their pants over a flip like that.....
F**K Trudeau and F**K CBC !!!!

There's a bunch of groups that I haven't even listed. All a station needs is the top 100 Canadian groups or artists and play their top 10 songs and still have at least 1000 songs in rotation and cover the 1960's through 2000. It's a simple Canadian Classic Hits station, 100 percent Canadian content.windsor wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 7:11 pmThis is a really great suggestion, its better than being the 5th country format on the dial.K.C. A station that just plays Gordon lightfoot and Rush all day would sufficeK.C. Mack wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 7:35 pmThere's a bunch of groups that I haven't even listed. I agree with you regarding 96.7. Definitely have expanded library usage. Smart move; most recently released music sucks.
