Casey Kasem The 80’s
Casey Kasem The 80’s
I don’t generally listen to WNIC, but this morning I have and stumbled on Casey’s AT40 the 80’s, today it’s the Top 100 from 1986, this is actually not bad, I know this Top 100 is a year end special but if 100.3 has AT40 The 80’s on every weekend then I will tune in on Sunday Mornings. I know CKWW 580 has the 70’s version on at 7PM on Sunday as well.

Re: Casey Kasem The 80’s
Iheart has AT40 channel, most of it is 80's countdown shows, also iHeart is running all year end countdown shows this holiday week thru Jan1st, also Sirius/XM has AT40 on Sat at noon, usually the same week from a year in the 70's...I enjoy those shows very much, great nostalgia and memories...I tune in to 580am when I can to listen to whatever AT40 show is on Sunday nights...
Re: Casey Kasem The 80’s
I know they do and Thanks for the info, but in all honesty it cool to hear these on radio as opposed to the phone or computer, now we need some radio station to do Casey’s 90’s AT 40’s, again Thanks.
Re: Casey Kasem The 80’s
The 80s has been a series since 2007, actually. Though WNIC playing them would be news to me; they'd previously had the series but had dropped it back at the end of 2010 - that coincided with the change to Fresh 100.
Now, as for the 90s, don't count on that coming to fruition anytime soon, regardless of prospective demand for it.

Re: Casey Kasem The 80’s
Casy Kasem left the AT40 franchise in a contract dispute in 1988 , Shadoe Stevens took over as the host of the show...AT40 was cancelled in 1995, then Kasem regained the rights to the AT40 name, and started it back up in 1998, he then retired in 2003 , Ryan Seacrest replaced him...

Oh wow. I used to listen to Casey on WNIC weekends... every weekend.
I had no idea they were doing this again!
I'll be sure to listen next Sunday.
Thanks for the info Kev.

Re: Casey Kasem The 80’s
Great news! I used to listen to the '80s show Saturday nights on 101.5 The River until it was dropped, apparently due to poor ratings. Then I caught it on Cars 108 out of Flint, only to have that frequency now blocked because of a Spring Arbor translator. I've been streaming it online on WFGR out of Grand Rapids, which airs it Sunday mornings and Sunday evenings. Great to once again have an over-the-air option.
Casey's Top 40, which Casey hosted from January 1989 until the AT40 name was restored in the spring of '98, was a Westwood One show, so it's under a different umbrella from the 1970-88 AT40s. Would still be nice to hear it again though. I grew up listening to CT40's AC sister shows, Casey's Countdown and Casey's Hot 20, on Q95 and only got to hear CT40 when atmospheric conditions favored being able to pick up Toledo's 92.5 Kiss FM in Macomb County (or on vacation on stations like 100.5 The Fox Saginaw or The Peak or 106 KHQ up north). In the meantime, some scoped episodes are posted on YouTube.

This would be perfect for Sunday morning on the Breeze, if they don't do a Pam Rossi type request show

I believe 96.3 had CT40 for at least a bit in the early 90's.Chris1980 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 30, 2018 8:27 pmCasey's Top 40, which Casey hosted from January 1989 until the AT40 name was restored in the spring of '98, was a Westwood One show, so it's under a different umbrella from the 1970-88 AT40s. My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Re: Casey Kasem The 80’s
99.5 The Fox was Detroit's CT40 affiliate. WHYT continued airing AT40 during the Shadoe Stevens era, finally dropping it probably in 1993 or so by which time their playlist had become so urban that AT40 was no longer a fit with their format. I've heard they actually used to bleep out Casey Kasem's name during the closing credits of AT40 in the early '90s. Real classy. I think it was sometime in the spring of '93 that Q95 picked up Casey's Countdown, later switching to Casey's Hot 20 when that show debuted in the fall of 1994.mtburb wrote: ↑Mon Dec 31, 2018 8:37 amI believe 96.3 had CT40 for at least a bit in the early 90's.Chris1980 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 30, 2018 8:27 pmCasey's Top 40, which Casey hosted from January 1989 until the AT40 name was restored in the spring of '98, was a Westwood One show, so it's under a different umbrella from the 1970-88 AT40s. Some nearby stations that did carry CT40 at that time, in addition to WVKS, included 102.5 WIOG (which also carried AT40), B96.9 out of Port Huron, and Lansing's Z101.7. I think Flint's CK105.5 may have had it too after WIOG switched to Hot AC in the early '90s.

Also 95-FM WVIC did before their short-lived flip to country. That was where I first heard Casey as a kid.Chris1980 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 01, 2019 9:53 pmSome nearby stations that did carry CT40 at that time, in addition to WVKS, included 102.5 WIOG (which also carried AT40), B96.9 out of Port Huron, and Lansing's Z101.7. Re: Casey Kasem The 80’s
WIOG may have had AT40 all the way up until they left the USA in 1994 - they're reported as still carrying the show at least in the Spring (this assumes AT40's own record-keeping was accurate, which it wasn't always), and bizarrely, even WLEW in the Thumb is reported as carrying them for a time!Chris1980 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 01, 2019 9:53 pmSome nearby stations that did carry CT40 at that time, in addition to WVKS, included 102.5 WIOG (which also carried AT40), B96.9 out of Port Huron, and Lansing's Z101.7.
