Re: 98.7 The Breeze (Soft AC) is here!
It dawned on me that Entercom pull the same bullshit a little less than a year ago on the listeners of 94.1 KMPS in Seattle.
Unlike Amp, KMPS was actually a very successful radio station with strong sales and good adult demo ratings.
The station flipped to Christmas music in late 2017, its personalities were yanked off the air, a few of 'em told listeners through social media not to fret (e.g. "bear with us - we'll be back after the holidays!"), and then a week or two later - long before December 25 - the station debuted its Soft AC format as 94.1 The Sound.
Cannot believe I forgot about the KMPS example when trying to figure out 98.7's next steps last weekend!
Making that video wasn't very smart on Chris & Julia's part. Here's the very cruel irony - I believe Mr. Cruise was one of the individuals who was let go from KMPS when *that* station flipped from Country to Soft AC. So, in less than 12 months, he's lost gigs at two major market stations owned by the same company as a result of format flips to Soft AC. And in *both* cases, the station stunted with Christmas music!

Wouldn't you rather have one of Kevin O'Neill or Chris Edmonds in the morning and whichever one isn't on the afternoon drive?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 12:51 pmStephen and JoAnn would be a good fit for the new 98.7.
However, I'd prefer a music intensive morning drive, similar to the old V98.7.

Re: 98.7 The Breeze (Soft AC) is here!
I think a combo of Kevin O'Neill and Lisa Jesswin (if she still does radio) would be a solid morning show for a Soft AC station. Sandy Kovach would be another excellent co-host. Rebekah Rhodes/Dina Harding would be another fine hire (again, like Lisa, if she will still do radio). I just hope Entercom doesn't go with the giggly young girl who laughs at everything as a co-host. There isn't much worse in morning radio than the female side-kick whose job is solely to be an annoying, high-pitched laugh track.

I think Pam Rossi would be a great choice for full time jock. This format IS her wheelhouse. Midday, at work listening, it would be perfect.

The song rotation is about 6 hours a lot of repeats they’re playing 10K songs but repeating the same 100 tunes not a good start.
Re: 98.7 The Breeze (Soft AC) is here!
Could this be a stunt???
Something not solid here..........
You would think a soft AC would have diff imaging then what they present here.
Also flips are usually done around holidays which 3 are coming up .....this flip done in the middle of nothing.

If the song rotation for playing 10,000 songs is so tight of a rotation (of 6 hrs )for a new station like I said in the past we could be bored of the station before to long.

Not at all uncommon for a new station launch. The station wants to introduce new listeners to core artists & songs. The song rotation is about 6 hours a lot of repeats they’re playing 10K songs but repeating the same 100 tunes not a good start.

The recent hires at AMP should have been reassigned to other positions in the cluster. For example, there's nothing they can do in the WWJ newsroom? There's certainly some dead wood that could be weeded out there. If one of them has a Country background, how about WYCD? 97.1 The Ticket? Thinking back, even Lew Dickey, Sr wasn't this heartless.

Re: 98.7 The Breeze (Soft AC) is here!
I cannot believe it took THIS LONG for the soft AC format to be back on the air here. With WNIC moving way far away from “Detroit’s Nicest Rock”, LTI going away for DRQ, the continuous hotmess after Magic 105, WOMC going oldies, Soft AC has been a long-time H*** hole and should have been a no-brainer format change. The Breeze will be a solid addition to the Entercom Detroit cluster. Advertisers will love it. It will be an easy sell for even the most challenged AE’s. It won’t be blowin’ up the PPMs but, it doesn’t have to. Don’t expect too much “personality” for a while. Music, back-to-back, will be the focus.

This is the best -and most sensible- thing to happen in a VERY long time in our radio area.
Thank you
Thank you

A couple upset comments on their facebook page, heres a couple of my favorites "The Breeze is awful. All I’ve heard today are stale old songs. Kenny Rogers Lady. Yuck. Instant channel change. Tried again tonight. Desperado. I never liked that song. Instant channel change again. You ruined the station. For sure taking 98.7 off my pre sets" another one is "More like 98.7 the snooze" "Wow that station seemed to “breeze” right off my preset station list.
It would've been sort of a funny teaser if they played V98.7 airchecks and smooth jazz music before launching the breeze.
Didn't think of this before, but Mix 96.7 will be probably getting a few new listeners from AMP.
For 106.7, I predict Ifart will try another attempt at a Variety Jack FM type format within the next 6 months, or maybe even Classic country for 106.7
