I'm not talkin' bout the linen.
________
When I was a kid I literally knew that song as the "Linen Song" :lol
You've got to look up the lyrics to see that they're saying "I'm not talkin' bout movin' in." It's very awkward accenting.

For me, it's always been "I'm not talkin' bout millenium."

The one most frequently heard this time of year at Holiday parties,

"There's a bathroom on the right".

From "Bad Moon Rising".

"I had a job for a while as an announcer at WWV but I finally quit, because I couldn't stand the hours."

way back in 1983-84, during the brief venture of 1430 Mount Clemens as WWHK with adult standards, my father and I were listening as they played "That Old Master Painter" by Dick Haymes (1950). Dad, who was serving in the USMC at that time, said everyone heard something other than Master Painter in some of the refrains.

It's on YT. The solo vocal sounds like the title, but the chorus sounds like the mondegreen.

Yeah, this should be in Music Musings... but what the hell, it's still fun.

Some of my faves:

"Miss Me Blind" by Culture Club
Actual lyric: "Bet you know how to have some fun and then"
Misheard: "Bet you know how to have some fun in bed"

"Where Does My Heart Beat Now" by Celine Dion
Actual lyric: "Give me wings to fly"
Misheard: "Tiddlywinks of life" [thanks to her French accent]

"What's Love Got to Do with It" by Tina Turner
Actual lyric: "I've been thinking about my own protection"
Misheard: "I've been thinking about my old girl Ciocia" [I'm part Polish]

"Ironic" by Alanis Morissette
Actual lyric: "It's a death row pardon two minutes too late"
Misheard: "It's a death row pardon two minutes to eight" [like that was some kind of legal tradition in Canada, I guess]

When I was younger, I never could figure out why the Christmas Carol "Jingle Bells" sang about a "One Whore Soap and Sleigh"

I hate myself for saying this, but that's very clever.

Whenever I Call You Friend by Stevie Nicks.

Actual lyrics:
"Sweet love's showin' us a heavenly light".

What I heard:
"Sweet love's flowin' on assembly lines"
Sounded strange to me, too.
I envisioned that there must have been a rom-com movie about a couple who met an auto plant :-)

"I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" was the subject of callers to WJR back when the song was popular, and the consensus then was "I'm not talkin' 'bout millennium". It makes some sense, but not very much.

"Bad Blood" got some questions on WJR as well, but the dj in question got past the line "the bitch is in her smile" by saying Neil and Elton were singing "the pitch is in her smile", which works as a lyric as well, but it's not as good.

My hears heard that as "Sweet love's flowin' almost every night."

The late John Denver "I'm Sorry" (1975) RIGHT lyric: "But more than anything else i'm sorry for myself, I can't believe you went away. WRONG lyric: I can't believe you anyway.
