What Have I Got Here
What Have I Got Here
I acquired this cable recently. Must have come with some device I bought, but I can't recall which one. Since it's still all tied up, it appears that I haven't used it yet. It's like several other cables I have already, with the same ends on it. But this one has that big knobby piece in line with it. What is that for?
I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.

I know that much. It's the round cylindrical part I was wondering about.

RF choke beads. Powered iron to cut down on RF (digital noise).

I had already typed this up and when I hit submit, your latest post came up.audiophile wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 1:38 pmRF choke beads. Powered iron to cut down on RF (digital noise).
So, I did some research. The lump encases a choke. The choke is intended to kee RF noise out of the cable and therefore prevent The cable from act ring as an antenna to radiate the noise.
That solves the mystery of how I got the cable. It would be the cable that came with the scanner I bought when I was in Florida.

Good minds think alike, or at least at the same time

We don't always think alike either.

Often seen on laptop power supply and computer monitor cables... looks exactly like a sealed version of what we used to call a 'ferrite core'.
Assuming 'bead' & 'choke' term are synonymous.
