CBS Sunday Night Movie (Everything Old Is New Again)

Post by sfpcc » Tue Apr 28, 2020 3:05 pm

CBS is Bringing Back Their Sunday Night Movie in May. This is the lineup:

May 3 / Raiders Of The Lost Ark
May 10 / Forrest Gump
May 17 / Mission Impossible
May 24 / Titanic (Minus Kate Winslet's breasts)
May 31 / Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade

Does anyone out there think is a good idea? I think it's kind of cute. They're even bringing back the bumper from the 70's with the flashing lights.
Maybe later they can get really retro and show Hostage Heart with Loretta Switt or an old Hallmark Hall Of Fame Movie from the 80's. Maybe ABC could show old James Bond Movies or Dirty Larry Crazy Mary.

So how fast would CBS show the closing credits during the news promos? The closing credits was so long, when it aired on NBC, it aired at about 30 frames per second, making it impossible to read.

Starz also does that. Whenever a movie has end credits they're partially blocked out by their own promos. However, there is always IMDB for that information.

Wow what a great idea for May sweeps. Bring back the nostalgia for that 18-49 demo. I saw CBS tonight using their early 80's movie opening graphics on the promo.

But, the real question is... do you think CBS will open with the congas???

As it appears to be a "series" (though a limited-run one) instead of a "SPECIAL presentation", probably not.

I think I heard that before a Charlie Brown Special, (which are now on ABC.)

Holy smokes, I didn't even need to go to the YouTube clip to unearth that memory. As soon as I read it the Bam-Bop, Ba-Bom-Bap flooded my brain.
Yes, yes, more congas!!!!!!

BTW - I think this whole movie idea demonstrates what a rudderless ship the Tiffany network has become. As detestable a person Les Moonves was, the cat did know how to program a network. I've always said in a glib kind of way that when you have an equipment breakdown, talent walking off the set or have just completely run out of ideas to put on the air you should always have a Krazy Kat cartoon spooled up on the film chain in lieu of just saying screw it and going to bars and tone. The CBS Sunday Night Movie is the Krazy Kat cartoon.

[EDIT: Enough what I think, let's go to the numbers:
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live- ... 20-1293085
5.26 million viewers and a 0.6 in the 18-49 demographic]

Maybe CBS originally had plans for original programming during the summer, which were upended by the coronavirus. The most logical stopgap being reruns and, of course, movies.

NBC is showing The Secret Life Of Pets this Saturday at eight. This could be just a one night thing though.

At the same time WADL is showing a 2013 film called Limbus. Lately they've been playing some really obscure films, (Curvature, Imagine I'm Beautiful.) it's kind of neat that a stations still does this.

The CBS Sunday Night Movie returns tonight with a showing of 2002's Old School. Maybe this will be a once in a while thing.

I forgot how good Old School was! I had finished watching a movie called "Lucy" and afterwards I was channel surfing and saw Old School was on so I left it there.
