Democrat Veep thread

Post by Honeyman » Tue Jul 23, 2024 8:15 pm

Lotta moving parts considering all that has happened in the last 10 days. Thought I'd start a thread specifically for this topic.

Personally, I really like Shapiro, but honestly think that ticket might be "TOO JEW" for the country. Considering Kamala's hubby is in the tribe, add a Shapiro into the mix in this particular anti-semetic time, it might not be the preferable choice. I say this as a Heeb.

I have great respect for Mark Kelly. Not really your typical politician, got into it because of unique circumstances. It would be very hard for the GOP to trash this guy.

Gimme either of these 2, but Kelly might be the best choice.

Thoughts?

I'm on board with either. They have to be better than union Vance.
This is a pro-Harris/Walz account

I agree, white military man.

Another name that is apparently in the running is Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota.

He would make an excellent attack dog.

Shapiro allegedly has some baggage:

DTE Energy paid $752 million in dividends to its shareholders last fiscal year. Remember that the next time they ask the MPSC to approve rate hikes.

That baggage seems kinda weak... but if we really want to be squeaky clean then it can't be him. There isn't a lot of margin for error but maybe a little more with Vance flopping around like a fish.

My understanding is because of Shapiro's prior work as a prosecutor, it presents a lot of past cases/decisions to pour through to vet. Given the short time to do a comprehensive job it just might not be enough time. Obviously they want to do a better job than the Republicans did with Vance.

I think it's worth noting that Shapiro might not be bringing a unique skill set to the ticket. His background as a prosecutor seems a little redundant with Harris's background. My money is on Kelley, but the ultimate arbiter of that will be his wife Gabby. If there's any hint that a VP run could be detrimental to her health and well being he'll decline the offer immediately.

Tim Walz (governor of MN) is now a name that's being mentioned increasingly as a potential running mate for Harris.

I wish there was another centrist option from Pennsylvania available. I am more worried she will pick Cooper though. The guy has as much personality as a paper bag.

I lived in Raleigh for awhile and yes, Cooper is dull as dishwater but he is a pretty solid person. Might not be the right pick but she could do much worse.
