Homeschooling and private schools are looking better and better with each passing day.
A North Carolina high school student was suspended after using the term "illegal alien" while in a class discussion.
The 16-year-old student was suspended by Central Davidson High School in Lexington, North Carolina, after asking a question that included the term "illegal alien" while doing a vocabulary assignment for English class, The Carolina Journal reported.
According to the student's mother, the student was assigned vocabulary words, which included the word "alien," and the teenager asked the teacher, "Like space aliens or illegal aliens without green cards?"
Another student was offended and allegedly threatened to fight the student, which caused the teacher to call the assistant principal, resulting in the teenager's words being deemed offensive to Hispanic classmates.
It is unclear whether the kid who threatened to fight got suspended (I'll bet not), but the kid who used the phrase "illegal alien" got a 3-day suspension.
The best way to nip this sort of thing in the bud is to call out the offended family in public. A press release naming the kids parents, in the form of a "sincere apology" will make others so easily offended think twice about throwing a temper tantrum.
Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it. There's no going back, and we can only go forward before we run out of runway.
" ... Newsweek reached out to members of Central Davidson High School's staff via email on Tuesday for comment. One staff member replied by saying they cannot discuss a specific student or their actions due to federal student privacy protections ..."
Funny how the school district had no problem releasing the name of the offender.

Homeschool kids can say all the slurs their parents taught them. Seems like a great way to perpetuate generational bigotry.
Speaking of bigotry, thanks for once again placing your anti-homeschooling (specifically, white Christian homeschool parents) on display. Your bigotry appears to be the basis for your assumption that there must be important parts of the story that are being left out.
Maybe it happened exactly as described. Kid asks a question. Another kid immediately gets triggered and says "let's fight!" After threat of violence, teacher calls vice-Principal to the classroom. Admin sides with Hispanic kid. End of story.

Who provoked this situation?
Stick to whatever it is you do, it's clear you don't understand how things work in a school full of teenagers.

The kid who tried to pick a fight. Period.
Do you think it is ok to pick a fight with someone because you got offended? Sounds to me like you're excusing inexcusable behavior because "teenagers will be teenagers."
