The back-and-forth in this thread seems more like bickering than actual discussion. To address some points:

1 - Trump will NOT become Speaker. I jokingly suggested in another thread here, and there are a few people who support it, but House Republicans are not going to go that route.

2 - It is pretty much down to Scalise and Jordan. I believe Jordan is the heavy favorite at this point.

3 - Democrats voted unanimously to oust McCarthy because - wait for it -..........politics (Matt must be trolling here because his suggestion that they support MAGA is pure idiocy). This is just another symptom of the hyper-partisan world we live in today. There are a handful of Republicans who insist on destroying the House as an institution, and so long as Republicans are in charge, Democrats are more than happy to fan the flames. It is a shame, really, that there weren't any sane Democrats who looked out for country first. And before anybody interjects with whataboutism, yes, I'm perfectly aware that Republicans would have done the same thing.

4 - While 8 Republicans voted to oust McCarthy, there were 210 who voted to keep him. So let's not pretend that 3.7% of Republicans in the House somehow speak for a majority when 96.3% voted otherwise.

I'm no political junky, far from it. But from a little googling Kevin McCarthy seems to score pretty moderate for a republican. Somebody tell me who pays attention what do the Democrat's hope to gain by throwing him out? A democrat speaker? That doesn't seem likely. A more "liberal" republican? That doesn't seem likely either.
