67 mass shootings as of Valentine's Day

Post by TC Talks » Tue Jan 24, 2023 5:57 pm

Bryce,

You and your people should be proud. Keep defending AR riffles.
There have already been 39 mass shootings in 2023 in the United States, according to the Gun Violence Archive. There have been more shootings than any other January on the database’s records, which go back to 2014.

Mass shootings — where four or more people, not including the shooter, are injured or killed — have averaged more than one per day in 2023. Every week has had at least six mass shootings.

Mass shootings have been on the rise in recent years. In 2022, 647 such incidents occurred, down from a year before but higher than any other year since the Gun Violence Archive started tracking in 2014.

The toll is immense. Less than a month into 2023, mass shootings have already killed 70 people and injured 167 this year in America.

The new year has brought six mass killings in the U.S. in fewer than three weeks, accounting for 39 deaths. Three have occurred in California since Jan. 16, according to a database compiled by The Associated Press, USA Today and Northeastern University. The database tracks every mass killing — defined as four dead, not including the offender — in the U.S. since 2006

It looks like a discrepancy in what constitutes a mass killing.

It’s too much. Ban assault weapons now!

They/them, non-binary and proud.

Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

All these shootings are absolutely horrible don't you agree? Or you just want to drive your bus and not worry about all the lives that have been destroyed by guns.

Actually, the definitions aren't the same.

The data from the Gun violence archive includes injuries in its definition. The AP only includes deaths.

That aside, TC Talks is the laziest bum I've ever seen when it comes to not sourcing his material. Even MW has warned him in the past about not sourcing his material, yet he repeatedly continues to do it. His quote came from the Washington Post, btw.

California has the strictest gun control laws in the country, yet they lead the nation, both in grand total and in per-capita, in number dead from mass shootings at 21 people dead. Care to explain that one?

Bryce,

Umm, California already has an "assault rife" ban. As you see, it doesn't work.
Category One: California bans assault weapons by type, series, and model. For example, California bans the following assault weapons by name: Beretta AR-70, Springfield Armory BM59 and SAR-48, Steyer AUG, Sterling MK-6, and the Bushmaster Assault Rifle. (Pen. Code, § 30510.) These are often referred to as Category One assault weapons.

Category Two: California law bans firearm models that are variations of the AK or AR-15, with only minor differences from those two models. (Pen. Code, § 30510 subds.(a)(1), (f); see Cal. Code Regs., tit. 11, § 5499 [listing the banned AK and AR-15 variations].) These are often referred to as Category Two assault weapons. It is important to note that Category One and Category Two assault weapons are banned regardless of whether they have a Category Three characteristic as mentioned below.

Category Three: California law bans assault weapons by general characteristics—Category Three. Pursuant to Penal Code § 30515, an assault weapon includes any of the following:

Rifles

A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following: (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; (B) A thumbhole stock; (C) A folding or telescoping stock; (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher; (E) A flash suppressor; or (F) A forward pistol grip.
A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.
Pistols

A semiautomatic pistol that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following: (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer; (B) A second handgrip; (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer's hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel; (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.
A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
Shotguns

A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following: (A) A folding or telescoping stock; (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
A semiautomatic shotgun that does not have a fixed magazine.
Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
Other Firearms

A semiautomatic centerfire firearm that is not a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, that does not have a fixed magazine, but that has any one of the following: (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; (B) A thumbhole stock; (C) A folding or telescoping stock; (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher; (E) A flash suppressor; (F) A forward pistol grip; (G) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer; (H) A second handgrip; (I) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer's hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel; or (J) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.
A semiautomatic centerfire firearm that is not a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
A semiautomatic centerfire firearm that is not a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

I wonder when TC Talks is going to go on a crusade against fast food restaurants calling for them to all be shut down? For every one person killed in a mass shooting, 2,000 die from heart disease. Sure, one could argue that eating fast food is a personal choice, but damn that stuff can be addictive.

Time for a cheeseburger ban.

We have a gun problem, you're pretty obtuse.

I don't see him calling for a wall at our southern border either.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), fentanyl is now the top cause of death among U.S. adults (ages 18-45) – more than COVID-19, suicide and car accidents. The CDC reports that of 100,000 adults who died of drug overdoses from 2018 to 2020, a staggering 19,400 – 19 percent – had died after overdosing on fentanyl.

The day people kill others with a cheeseburger is the day I agree. You are quite obtuse if you can't understand the contextual difference.

Just like COVID, you don't seem emotionally capable of understanding this problem unless it happens to your family. Can you share your thoughts on how weapons designed to kill have shattered many lives?

I am all for the ATF going after gun owners as vigorously as fentanyl dealers, both are equally destroying America.
