Is the House Speaker elected by a vote of the entire house, or just by the majority party?


I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

The question is can some number of moderate Republicans and all the Democrats vote for a moderate Republican for speaker? It won't take much to sink McCarthy so somebody is likely to give it a whirl.
