Biden pushes back at Oil Company profiteering

Finally, he starts pointing his public power to the root of the gas prices...
The letter, which went to executives at BP, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Marathon Petroleum, Phillips 66, Shell and Valero Energy, extends an effort by the president in recent weeks to pin at least some of the blame on firms raking in billions in profits while deflecting any responsibility from his administration. Rising gas prices have contributed to a slide in Mr. Biden’s approval ratings in advance of the fall midterm elections.

The president argued in the letter that the companies had failed to restore refining capacity that they reduced earlier in the pandemic, leaving it at its lowest level in more than half a decade. At the same time, it said, there is “an unprecedented disconnect between the price of oil and the price of gas,” noting that the last time the price of crude hit $120 a barrel, in March, the price of gas at the pump was $4.25. But today, gas prices are 75 cents higher

Those executives should buy full-page ads in whatever print is still printing, and whatever broadcast time they can get, and just tell the President to FU** OFF!!! He, and his administration, railed against all forms of reliable energy for nearly two years, and campaigned to migrate the country off of fossil fuels. His ratings SHOULD be tanking because HE IS responsible for it.

If he REALLY wanted to cause a drop in prices he would promote as much COMPETITION in the industry and get GOVERNMENT OUT OF THE WAY of increasing production.

So record profits due to artificial creating a refining crisis isn't worth a ftc investigation?

It is no longer cost effective to increase refining capacity, assuming big oil doesn't shutdown solely to gouge Trump voters and their "Rolling Coal" shitboxes...

I think the oil companies deserve the bulk of the blame. Could and should Biden introduce a relaxing of "green policy" to pump more oil for awhile? Yes!

They/them, non-binary and proud.

Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

Unless you can show (prove) actual collusion between the companies to limit production, then the issue is completely based on competition. The government puts TOO MANY speedbumps in the way, or other companies would step up production to claim more of the market, and thus increase their own profits.

The government's iron heel (from THIS administration) prevents this from happening and thus is responsible for the high prices.
