White Texas Democrat calls Tim Scott an "Oreo"

Now here's a racist if I ever saw one:

A leading Democratic Party figure in Texas has come under fire after he was accused of racism for referring to Senator Tim Scott as ‘Oreo.’

Gary O’Connor is the chair of the Democratic Party in Lamar County, which is about 115 miles northeast of Dallas.

He wrote a controversial post on Facebook in response to Scott’s speech after President Joe Biden’s first address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday.

And of course this gets very little media coverage. And of the few outlets that even are covering it, it is difficult to come by either a photo or mention of O'Connor's race anywhere, with the Daily Mail literally being the lone exception. But, I guess this kind of racism is ok if you're a leftist. The message? You are under obligation by virtue of your skin color (black) to be a Democrat. That is blatant racism.

Granted it's a racist comment, but not sure why this should get a lot of media coverage. Can't imagine the Democratic party of Lamar County, Texas is a large organization. Who really cares what the chair says....the 24 members?

Same reason that the media heavily covers any random police encounter in any random city between a white cop and a black perpetrator.

I will concede that this "party official" isn't exactly high-profile, but that has never once stopped the media from using low-profile people to advance their "white Americans are racists" agenda. And you can get your ass that if some lowly Republican party official referred to any high-profile black Democrat as a monkey or an ape (or used really any racial slur for that matter) that we'd hear about it.

I do believe the Governor has called for him to step down over the comment.

Par for the course amongst the libs. They're all racist.

Donald Trump was and is the best president this country has ever had. And he will return to glory as our leader again.

I hope it was more than just the governor who called for him to resign.

That shit is bullshit regardless of any circumstances. Here's my only question, BMW had absolutely nothing to say about some very well publicized racism within the Republican party in our own state. Why is he all of a sudden concerned about racism in a small Texas community?

And here is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. The TOP headline on Newsweek at the moment:

"Pastor Robin Bullock Says It's a Sin to Recognize Joe Biden as President"

https://www.newsweek.com/pastor-robin-b ... nt-1588361

So not on the issue of race specifically, but a prime example of a major news publication making its top story (not just any story - TOP headline in their news feed) about some far-right pastor almost nobody has ever heard of saying pedaling conspiracy theories about a high-profile Democrat.

I absolutely abhor the comments that came out of Gary O'Connor's mouth; as well as similar comments that flooded Twitter. As a rule of thumb, I try (not always succeed) in attacking the idea and not the person since I believe most people are generally good faith advocates for their causes (although I lack the naiveté to not recognize the cynicism that governs Washington).

I think this story, as well as the Newsweek article, serve to amplify stupid and largely irrelevant voices for purposes of fomenting righteous outrage, clicks, and Potpourri threads. They do not contribute to the larger substantive conversations of policies that actually affect our daily lives. My biggest complaint of the Trump era was the lazy journalism of spending all day focusing on his silly tweet sideshow instead of the decisions being made in the White House.

And one day after this is posted for "getting little media coverage", he resigns.

Now the resignation IS newsworthy...and thus far the only places I see reporting it are Fox News, Yahoo, and National Review. What do you want to bet it gets no mention whatsoever on ABC, NBC, or CBS? Reporters from those organizations would be tripping over each other to get to the scene of a Republican official forced to resign over racist comments.

Here's an example of Texas GOP county shares spewing racist/stupid comments on social media that never made a major media splash: https://www.texastribune.org/2020/06/05 ... rge-floyd/.

This includes chairs from Harris County (Houston), Bexar County (San Antonio), Comal County (suburban San Antonio), Nueces County (Corpus Christi), and Harrison County (near Tyler; but really rural). Keith Nielsen of Houston made a blurb on Newsweek in August 2020, but otherwise the story never left the state of Texas.

Highlighting the fact that policy will lead to a banana republic is racist now?

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

While you are looking up socialism, communism and Marxism you can add banana republic to the list.

When one political party is powered by outrage alone and has no platform and no policy ideas AT ALL that’s far more dangerous and will get us to banana republic status in a hurry. Especially if they block the other party from making any substantial policy changes while the country rots away like a tomato withering on the vine.
