Connecticut restaurants and gyms to 100% capacity on 3/19

Post by Matt » Fri Mar 05, 2021 8:17 am

I wonder if the dementia-riddled uniter in chief will now insult the governor of Connecticut:
Connecticut will lift all coronavirus-related capacity limits on restaurants and other businesses in two weeks, Gov. Ned Lamont announced Thursday.

The Nutmeg State is joining several others that have recently eased lockdown restrictions.

“I think Connecticut has earned it,” the Democratic governor said.

Starting on March 19, Connecticut’s retail stores, houses of worship, gyms, hair salons and other spaces will all be allowed to operate at 100 percent capacity.

Connecticut has always been in the top half of states on this if I’m not mistaken. Texas and Mississippi do not share that distinction. That said it still feels too early to go to 100%. I can understand 50% sure but 100%?

I disagree. It is time to restore freedom.

It’ll come in due time. All this does is increase the chance of shutting down completely again.

No - shutdowns aren't happening again. There was no uptick in Tampa after the Super Bowl. We're either at or approaching herd immunity. All Americans 16+ are to have access to vaccines in the next 2 1/2 months.

Ok... then they will do some reductions in capacity should there be an uptick.

Maryland, blue state with a moderate Republican governor, is going to 100% capacity in restaurants and gyms on Friday.

RT - For how long? That is the answer that the pro-shutdown or pro-capacity limit crowd never has an answer for. How much longer? Or at least what metrics before 100% ? Why is this a question that never ever gets answered?

Because it’s being taken a step at a time is my guess. If they commit to X being the target and we get there and regress it’s gonna be hard to put that genie in the bottle.

Perpetually leaving millions of business owners on pins and needles is not the better alternative.

2300+ new cases in Michigan today.

Today's multi-billion dollar questions....

How much of an increase will Whitmer be able to stomach without pulling back again?

With a lot of vaccines getting to those most vulnerable to serious complications, is it time to not worry so much about case numbers and only focus on hospitalizations / ICU patients and those likely to die?

Wellllll... la de frickin da

Because providing a metric would make it more difficult to keep moving the goalposts. Let’s look back on the last year:
1. 15 days to stop the spread. Stay home!
2. Just wear the mask!
3. Just get the vaccine and everything can go back to normal.
4. Even after you get the vaccine, you’ll need to stay home and wear masks until everyone gets the vaccine.

Now that there are these new variants, I’m sure the pro-lockdown/stay home crowd will find new ways to keep those goalposts moving.

Didn't realize Michigan numbers were still that high. We average 400 to 600 new a day, was high at a little over 800 today. But at this point I really don't trust any numbers put out.

It’s been around 1000-1500 for a few weeks. Today was a large jump.
