The Electoral College
This topic has come up a few times.. are you comfortable that a voter in Wyoming has 3 times more "voting power" for President than yourself (if you are a Michigan voter)? I'm not.

Re: The Electoral College
Yes, I would prefer electoral college to the county level, where each county gets at least one vote.
Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!
Re: The Electoral College
Might have made sense in the 1800s, it doesn't now. The Republicans will move against it within the next decade. Georgia and Arizona turning blue this year and Texas, Florida, and NC headed in that direction will force them to.
The censorship king from out of state.
Re: The Electoral College
Sovereign States are also made up of land mass. Federal policy affects land mass as well as the people that reside within. Wyoming and Michigan are almost exactly equal in size with Wyoming at 97,814 square miles and Michigan comprising 97,990. One could argue that Wyoming is getting short changed by having only three electoral votes.
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Re: The Electoral College
It would a have the UN-united states of America without the Electoral Collage.
That was part of the deal to get them to sign on.
Or would rather have the league of confederated states?

Re: The Electoral College
If anything, the states should adopt something similar for their state-wide elections.
Re: The Electoral College
I'm fine with the Electoral College, but I think all states should do it like Maine and Nebraska - basically, 2 winner-take-all electors for each state and 1 elector for the winner of each Congressional District (or possibly state-wide proportional allocation of all of its remaining electors so as to avoid the problems with gerrymandering). This would make it essentially 80% popular vote and 20% state vote.

Re: The Electoral College
I am one of the few Democrats that has no problem with it, especially with Texas in the future.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

That would guarantee Republican wins and make the land voting an even bigger problem...bmw wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 4:18 pmI'm fine with the Electoral College, but I think all states should do it like Maine and Nebraska - basically, 2 winner-take-all electors for each state and 1 elector for the winner of each Congressional District (or possibly state-wide proportional allocation of all of its remaining electors so as to avoid the problems with gerrymandering). Republicans have won one popular vote in 32 years... they are the only political party on earth that holds most of the positions that they do... that should be instructive on the message and how it requires some modification to continue as a going concern. Instead they are being propped up by a system that nobody else bothered to replicate because it doesn’t actually work the way it was intended.

TC Talks was onboard with my suggestion when I made it several years ago. Interesting that you are not.
Re: The Electoral College
The plan was a bit more complex several years ago if I recall.

Re: The Electoral College
I firmly think that going proportional would disenfranchise the folks in larger cities. 10 people in the middle of nowhere in 8 or 10 districts in Michigan would decide the states vote... no thanks.

Re: The Electoral College
The Founding Fathers were also okay with landowners only voting and slavery.
This makes no sense to me. Please elaborate.Bryce wrote: ↑Sat Nov 14, 2020 1:33 pmSovereign States are also made up of land mass. And BTW, letting state legislatures decide congressional districts is the same as letting the coyotes design the chicken coop security.
