The dueling town halls on competing networks crowned an early winner, at least ratings-wise: Early Nielsen ratings estimates declare Joe Biden the victor over Donald Trump.

The ratings service says 12.2 million viewers tuned into the former VP and Democratic candidate's town hall on ABC from 8 to 10 EDT Thursday night, moderated by George Stephanopoulos, while 10.4 million watched Savannah Guthrie referee voters' conversations with President Trump from 8 to 9 EDT on NBC. Head to head from 8 to 9, Biden had 12.7 million to Trump's 10.4 million. But these early estimates are not adjusted for time zones, so they don't measure town hall viewership on the West coast; nor do they include ratings for MSNBC and CNBC, which simulcasted the Trump town hall.

If the results hold, they are sure to enrage the ratings-obsessed president.

The key demo, though, is crazy: a 15 for Biden, a 10 for Trump in the 18-49 men. He got a 9 with women. This means that Biden is winning young people and middle aged people by a wide margin. He won among men, which is so important. (Maybe men are tired of dying from COVID?) In adults 50 and over, Biden edged out Trump with a 15 over a 14.

All the demos were for Biden, which is really solid. He trounced Trump across the board.

Do you think the average watcher had Trump on multiple platforms using multiple outlets? I mean... maybe they did, but the Green Brothers were actually encouraging their followers to do just that.

Trafalgar is a terrible pollster. Go look at the 538 rankings for them. They got very lucky in 2016 that turnout among Democrats was depressed. In 2018 they utterly blew it.

That's just because those were the outlets that carried each one. If Trump was carried on just NBC and just one youtube stream, I'm sure he would have had close to the same total viewership.

One factor being COMPLETELY overlooked in the ratings analysis is that Biden's has been scheduled for some time now and has had plenty of promotion. Trump's was finalized, what, 24 hours before-hand?
