I've also heard the same about St. Patrick's Day. Outside of the tourist trap big cities, St. Patrick is no big deal over there. Their patron saint is some woman. St. Beatrice or Bridget or something like that. It's celebrated at the end of January or beginning of February. Walk into an Irish Pub in Detroit on her birthday, and there aien't nothing going on.
