Based on the people that I know have smoked it, they are very moody,

I don't smoke pot but did many many years ago in my youth. I am not a fan and tend to think its not a good idea.
But I feel like the op-ed makes more of a case that mentally ill people smoke pot rather than pot causes mental illness.

If 99% of schizophrenics smoke pot it doesn't say much if only 0.01% of pot smokers are schizophrenic. The old correlation vs causation dilemma.

Every time these types of debates crop up, I always go back to the basic premise that inhaling chemicals that the human body is not designed to inhale is going to have consequences. Simple as that, really.

Certainly nobody could claim that it’s “safe” though some try. Vaping is like that... it’s not a safe alternative to cigarettes because you are putting essentially a foreign object (in gas form) into your lungs.
