Jeffery Fieger's New Political Ad

Post by Bryce » Sat Jan 21, 2017 1:30 pm

Heard a new radio ad by Jeffery Feiger. Not sure if it was on WWJ or WJR. The ad pretty much takes a cheap shot at T Rump and the Republican Party. Evidently, he's just as butt hurt as the rest of the leftists.

From the ad:
“Inscribed on the Statue of Liberty are these words, ‘Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free; the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.’ It doesn’t say anything about a wall, does it?”
Well Jeffery, it also doesn't say anything about feeding, clothing, housing, providing health care and an education to anyone that can sneak in illegally. It was meant to welcome those that wanted to come to America, become an American and work hard to better their life. Legally.

Maybe Mr. Fieger should stick to chasing ambulances and leave the politics to others.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

The immigration system has changed much too.. it's harder to get in legally. It was changed because folks got tired of legal Europeans coming in. It was a similar political climate to now. Nobody likes the new guy...

An industry colleague said it was hard and expense to immigrate from Venezuela 20 years ago.

She is very annoyed with those here illegally...

After the thumping he took in his last election, you think he would have learned that...

About about the only thing he could win is dog catcher - because of all the experience chasing ambulances. :blink

Little History for ya...
In the subsequent half century, the pattern of U.S. immigration changed dramatically. The share of the U.S. population born outside the country tripled and became far more diverse. Seven out of every eight immigrants in 1960 were from Europe; by 2010, nine out of ten were coming from other parts of the world. The 1965 Immigration Act was largely responsible for that shift. No law passed in the 20th century altered the country’s demographic character quite so thoroughly. But its effects were largely inadvertent.
Johnson, Kennedy and associates pushed the 1965 act to limit European immigration so more folks from other parts of the world could come in. Not to limit immigration.

I was referencing immigration quotas in the 1920's. Nationalism, isolationism and protectionism ruled the day. It was a direct response to mass immigration from Europe to the US in the period 1880-1920 roughly. Especially the non-English speaking immigration That dominated the second half of that 40 year block mainly from Eastern and Southern Europe.

Immigration from places like Mexico was already rising long before 1965. We are talking two different time periods that cannot be directly compared... my point is there is no central point for people to come to be processed. Establish one and people might be apt to go there and be processed so long as they are welcome here... then they wouldn't just sneak over the border and be undocumented. Everybody makes things more complicated by trying to stop people and toss them out. Welcome them instead.

When we welcomed everyone, there was no social safety net. There is today and the costs would be daunting. Plus, we really need to limit it to people that have a desire to assimilate.

It takes decades to assimilate.... at least 1 USA born generation has to come about. It took 50, 60, 70 years to get the folks from Europe assimilated fully. And even then they may not be fully. There's no black and white answer here but the folks who come over now will have fully assimilated children by mid-century. But they have to be welcomed and the nativism stuff needs to be dropped. Everybody that's ever been on this continent including native Americans is an immigrant.

When you distill it down to "I'm a better immigrant than you!" It starts looking petty and 2nd grade. It's stupid.

Not silly at all. The first immigrants came here without the social programs that are widely available to all, legal and illegal, that we have today. They came for opportunity, no safety net, no handouts. Most importantly, they came for the opportunity to become Americans. The same cannot be said for many that come today.

Fantastic... so it's the immigrants fault that such a system exists? It's their fault that the 1965 system is flawed in that it didn't correct for the overly complicated process to obtain citizenship that can take 10 years to complete? Part of the reason the immigrants in the early 20th century became citizens is because it was easier to do. Fix that and citizenship will rise. Provide centralized entry points and it will rise. To argue that these people are lazy is incorrect and exactly what was said about previous folks. This narrative of hard working and industrious immigrants came much later than when they were immigrating. At the time they were very much hated by certain folks already here. Were they hard working? Yes. Are today's? Yes.

Democrats love red tape. Immigration was one more place they wanted to micro-manage. LBJ was a terrible president.

I have a feeling Trump will make it easier to immigrate if you have special skills.

It was already micro-managed starting in 1923 or 24 I forget which... the 1965 thing merely reformed an already stupid system and didn't do it right.
