I haven't seen this part of Governor Whitmer's statement about the plot to kidnap her in the news, but it was the most impactful part of that statement for me.
"When our leaders meet with, encourage, or fraternize with domestic terrorists, they legitimize their actions and they are complicit. When they stoke and contribute to hate speech, they are complicit. In 1981, President Ronald Reagan spoke to the NAACP’s annual convention, and his comments stand in sharp contrast to what we have seen on the national and state level from his own beloved party in 2020. He said, “A few isolated groups in the backwater of American life still hold perverted notions of what America is all about.” Recently, in some places in the nation, there’s been a disturbing recurrence of bigotry and violence.

Then Reagan sent a direct message to those who still adhere to senseless racism and religious prejudice. “You are the ones who are out of step with our society,” he said. “You are the ones who willfully violate the meaning of the dream that is America. And this country, because of what it stands for, will not stand for your conduct.” So let me say this loud and clear. Hatred, bigotry, and violence have no place in the great state of Michigan. If you break the law or conspire to commit heinous acts of violence against anyone, we will find you, we will hold you accountable, and we will bring you to justice."

Keeping people safe during a pandemic is not tyranny. It's called giving a fuck. Anyone who opposes masks doesn't give a fuck. My former pastor is fighting for his life right now.

No, my dad was the head of the church board at one time, but this was my pastor from 1999 to 2012. My dad has never been ordained but just spoke a handful of times when our current or former pastor was out of town or sick and we couldn't get a visiting pastor. This pastor was also my 10th grade Bible teacher and was the chaplain for Warren PD for awhile after he stepped down in 2012.

No, I was pretty consistent. Like many Republicans at the time, I supported the Patriot Act in the wake of 9/11. And had it not have cut into so many liberties, I would still support it. Unfortunately, we have more terrorists to worry about at home than abroad due to Trump's bigotry and ignorance of this pandemic.

Desperate times call for harsher measures. I have always believed that. We adjust to the circumstances to combat a plague. Just like they ended up doing in 1919.
