Things change from trial and error. My cousin grew the earliest largest honey rocks in Saginaw valley, he helped the process by saving the seed from earliest and largest melons every year. Then those were the ones he planted the next year. After 40 years of doing this he had everyone beat.

My question is, why are cases of gender dysphoria quite literally skyrocketing at the rate they have been over just the past 5-10 years? Depending on the numbers you look at, in some instances they're up like 20-fold. Is it really just the fact that it is less taboo than it used to be and that gender dysphoria has always been this common, just hidden, or is there something more to it? I don't dispute that gender dysphoria really is a thing, but I have a hard time believing that as many people who today claim to have it in fact do have it.

I also take issue with some of the language used today. "Assigned female at birth"? What does that even mean? "Assigned" by whom? You weren't assigned anything. You were "born" as a biological girl. And "gender affirmation"? That used to be known as the more accurate "having a sex change."

I feel like all the politically sanitized language we're expected to use today completely ignores biological facts.

There is really limited research on this. One of the reasons why the literature on this is limited is because of the threat to a scholar's career that comes from performing this type of research. If you want to see what I mean, look into the Lisa Littman study on gender dysphoria where she discussed the possibility of "rapid onset gender dysphoria".

When she published this paper, it caused a lot of frustration. People didn't want to hear it, so people, many of them non-scholars who do not understand how the scientific method applied in social sciences, demanded a review of the paper. So the paper was reviewed and "corrected". The "corrections" were basically incidental and meant very little concerning the findings. Littman had already acknowledged limitations to her research, but the noisemakers wanted to make a big deal out of who the population was for the study. The thing is that they used all the pressure they exerted to shut down an entire avenue of potential study so rather than continue with the discovery of what is actually going on, researchers have essentially said "fuck it!" because they don't want the headache.

I mean, no matter where you sit on this issue, its clear that there should be scholarly interest in pursuing this topic. But if you're going to have to go back and make tiny changes later on so that people who do not like what you have to say can point out "but the research was recalled!" and then make up things like saying its been "debunked" and such, why do that to your career? I mean, I disagree with a lot of the gender critical people and feminist perspective on the issue, but those voices need to be heard. Otherwise, this is just a continuation of a problem where critical interest has existed for decades -- the imposition of males into female spaces and the control of language in ways that manipulate discussion.

You will find some literature on the topic, but its pretty limited in terms of what you would expect in terms of interest in such a phenomenon.
