So, what do we have here? Mexican standoff? Chinese fire drill?

Really, they shouldn't have been able to remove the Speaker unless they had selected a replacement.

Well now that depends on which particular scale the scheme in question uses.

What's the difference between fact and fiction?

Fiction has to be believable.

I hope the next speaker is matt1 or bidet.

I would nominate a guy I saw as a kid.. Clyde Beatty. Well suited to handle the current House. Too bad he's gone, he could 'whip' then into shape.

Beatty became famous for his "fighting act", in which he entered a cage with wild animals with a whip and a pistol strapped to his side. The act was designed to showcase his courage and mastery of wild beasts.

Bababooey!

Steve Scalise is running for the speakership and so is Jim Jordan. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, a name unfamiliar to me, may also run.

Among those choices, I definitely like Scalise most.
This reminded me of the constant trolling of CSPAN. There’s a whole video chronicling all of it.

Let's see if this will workout. I'm pretty sure Republicans have heard from voters about this shit show. I was so hoping it would have been Trump.
(Bloomberg) -- Republicans picked Representative Steve Scalise as their nominee to become House speaker, yet opposition from a group of hardliners threatens to delay a final vote and leave the chamber without a leader.

The 58-year-old lawmaker received early assistance from his rival for speaker, conservative firebrand Jim Jordan, who quickly endorsed Scalise after narrowly losing to him. Jordan offered to formally nominate Scalise on the House floor.

“Obviously we still have work to do,” Scalise said. “We are going to have to go upstairs on the House floor and resolve this.”

Looky looky, your pack of idiots managed to mess this up...
Republicans used to consider themselves the orderly party, the one that assiduously adhered to the rules and respected the will of the majority. But the traditional rule book has been thrown out the window when it comes to the extraordinary tumult in the House.

In what would have been unthinkable in the past, numerous House Republicans on Wednesday refused to honor the results of their internal election of Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana for speaker — historically a given. They threatened a mutiny on the House floor that had factions of the party in open conflict amid the unrelenting chaos on Capitol Hill.

Who's next? The US might be dragged into an international conflict and the GOP can't decide how to run Congress. Beyond impressive. I'm telling you that the Democrats would have an easier time recruiting moderate Republicans than this.
Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana withdrew on Thursday from consideration for the speakership he was on the cusp of claiming after hard-line Republicans balked at rallying around their party’s chosen candidate, leaving the House leaderless and the G.O.P. in chaos.

After being narrowly nominated for speaker during a Wednesday closed-door secret-ballot contest among House Republicans, Mr. Scalise, their No. 2 leader, found himself far from the 217 votes needed to be elected on the House floor. Many supporters of his challenger, Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, the right-wing Republican endorsed by former President Donald J. Trump, refused to switch their allegiance.

With no clear end in sight to the G.O.P. infighting that has left one chamber of Congress paralyzed at a time of challenges at home and abroad, Mr. Scalise said he would step aside in hopes that someone else could unite the fractious party.

The MAGA crowd is behind the problems involving a new speaker. They are not going to vote for anyone who won't embrace their bullshit agenda.

Still no speaker of the house, I guess the Democratic President will have to solve this global crisis without the Republicans.
